The internet was fine until about week ago. The problem we’re having is the internet is running extremely slow on all four PCs in our home and because it’s affecting all the computers we can rule out the possibility that a setup on one individual PC is the problem as if it was the rest of the computer would not be affected. To rule out it’s not the wireless router we connected the AOL modem directly to one of the PCs and the problem remains. I’ve also tried using another Ethernet cable to see if the cable is at fault and still the problem remains.

After going on www.internetfrog.com a website which detects download and upload speeds it detects the download speed at 727kbps but when it come to upload it just gets stuck trying to work it out. This is not surprising as we’ve been having problems uploading things. Taking all this in consideration I think it’s either problem with either something in the local area, our line or the modem.

My dad tried phoning the help lines and they just come out with go into msconfig and un-tick everything apart from blarr blarr blarr. My dad was also found it hard to understand the guy because he sounded Asian.

I have a feeling the guys on these lines no nothing about IT and just read from a book. Please we need help as we're being messed about and my dads losing hundreds of pounds from is ebay business.

ok, i dont really know much about this, so i'll give ou a few basic ideas to try (as i doubt you'll get much else help at this time of night)

Plug only one computer at a time into the router and check each one.

Reset router to default settings

Try a different phone socket

Try a different microfilter

As i said i cant really help much, and all this stuff is unlikely to make any difference. But networking guys seem to be a strage breed of IT ppls that actually sleep :o so ou'll have to wait until tomorow for proper help
