Hello, hopefully someone can help as I am having problems with my Internet. My ISP is Nildram and I am on 2mb. Every 5 minutes I keep getting disconnected. Sometimes it's okay for an hour or so and then it keeps disconnecting, almost random. I have telephoned Nildram and they keep carrying out these tests and then referring me to BT, saying nothing is wrong on their behalf. The problems I am experiencing have never happened before and I was running the same setup as I am now.

I have tested a lot of things including running a direct cable to the master socket, changed the filters, tried another ADSL modem (currently using a Thompson Speedtouch 330 modem), tried a different PC and still the problem continues.

Also ran anti-virus and spyware software and everything is fine. Ran the modem diagnostic tool and everything is fine except for when it reaches the 'Internet' test symbol and says there is a problem with it.

If anyone needs to know anything else about my setup etc then please ask, thank you.

SNR Margin, attenuation and current sync rate would be useful - instructions in FAQ.

As requested:

-------------------------------
ProductName= SpeedTouch 330
ProductRelease= 0x0400
SerialNumber= CP0443AT8DB
SoftwareRelease= 301.0.0.12
VendorName= THOMSON
-------------------------------
ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 50
ReceiveMargin_dB= 5
RxOutputPower_dBm= 0
SendAttenuation_dB= 31
SendMargin_dB= 27
-------------------------------

Just to add, i previously had a 1MB Internet connection with Nildram, did not have any problems. When i upgraded to 2MB, that is when all the problems occured.

Any more information required, just let me know.

Have you checked your internet settings because it might be as simple as your connection is set to disconnect if left idle for 10minutes?

That is one of the first settings i checked. I can assure you 100% that my Internet connection is not set to disconnect after the default 20 minutes of inactivity.

Youre signal to noise ratio is low at 5db (ReceiveMargin_dB= 5)
can you try connecting using the BT master socket and then posting the stats?

In order to connect the modem to the filter, then the filter to the master socket, i need to power up the modem using a USB. I don't have a laptop, and my PC is in my other room. Therefore, at the moment, it will be difficult for me to power up the modem where the master socket currently is located. I also do not have access to a router. Any ideas or suggestions?

OK, I managed to borrow a router from a friend. Problem fixed. My stats are as follows:

ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 50
ReceiveMargin_dB= 21
RxOutputPower_dBm= 0
SendAttenuation_dB= 31
SendMargin_dB= 28

Could anyone guestimate with regards to what connection speeds I would get with BE Unlimited? Based on my line stats, what is good and bad about them? I read somewhere, the higher the SNR Margin, the more my line can be taken to the limits thus, resulting in higher download speeds, can anyone confirm this?

There's a good chance that if you're opening loads of connections, the router will crash.

I second that. I ran around 10+ torrents and the router did indeed crash not once, but twice. Thanks for the information.

Doesnt matter what I try to download at the moment, it still disconnects, even downloading patches for games, it dies :(

Try connecting your modem/router to the BT master socket by taking off the faceplate and see if it still disconnects.
