Hello. For a while now the internet disconnects quite a lot and it takes a long time to connect back up. Im currently with Talktalk and im thinking of changing to another ISP. The laptop is wireless and it disconnects quite a lot, even more so when im on my xbox/desktop which is wired(bandwidth problems?). Can anyone recommend a good ISP which they don't seem to have these problems with or as often as im aware internet can disconnect for anyone.

~Thanks

You need to determine which of your problems are local to your network, and which of them are down to your broadband connection/ISP.

There’s no point recommending an ISP if it isn’t available to you. Use the samknows website to find out which ISPs are available on your exchange.

There is a BT phone exchange down the road from me (within 1 mile) but I did read this doesn't make a difference. Seems sky / talktalk are the best. Cable is unavailable where I live at the moment. The wireless could be the router as it is the standard talktalk one I got sent. I do have a Netgear one but I hear it is confusing to configure it with Talktalk internet. I may give it ago with the Netgear router.

Are you after a good ISP, or a cheap ISP?

So you're limited to BT, TalkTalk or Sky. Given the limited choice I'd pick Sky (if the price was right).

If your broadband is regularly dropping then you may have line issues that a change of ISP might not fix. Have you had a good moan at TalkTalk to see if there’s a problem they can fix?

Nah I havn't. We used to be with Tesco and that disconnected. My mate was with AOL and he lives just around the corner. Not sure what would be causing it to disconnect a lot. I know some people have internet that never disconnects.

According to samknows you're almost on top of the exchange. If you’re getting regular disconnects then there's something wrong (obviously) with either their equipment or yours.

Speak to TalkTalk and see what they can do about it.
