Internet question help

Unless you have a REALLY fast internet connection, a fancy router and network card won’t help speed things up.

The first question is; how fast is your internet connection?
 
this is what I am getting on Internet speed test

98.8 Mbps download

5.20 Mbps upload

Latency: 7 ms
Server: London

but I am paying for 108Mbps I do get that but got lots of things running in the background at the moment.
and back to my main point I am using wireless I was just wondering if it would improve my signal strength and speed by using the usb plugin into my MSI Laptop even though I am hitting the right speed it was more really to do with the signal strength while playing games and streaming.
 
OK, so from a data transfer point of view, your upload speed is your limiting factor. You can download at really high speed but your upload is only 5% if your download speed.

Taking that on to your WLAN, from an online/internet viewpoint, there is no need to transfer data any faster than 100Mbps.

Wireless N at 5GHz will transfer your data at a theoretical 300Mbps which is actually maximum 150Mbps because it’s half-duplex. That’s still MUCH faster than your 100Mbps internet.

The HUGE benefit of your 802.11AX access point is it will allow multiple clients to connect at different speeds, but the important factor in getting good transfer speeds is picking an uncontended channel for your connection. 5GHz will help massively as it gives you more channels and fewer people actually use it vs. 2.4GHz.

So if you want better wireless speed, set your wireless card to 5GHz and get on a channel of your own. That way you get all the access point, all the time.

If you want optimum signal strength, get a wireless card with external antennae. Generally bigger antennae are better, but for WLAN, you probably won’t see much benefit from going bigger than the 9dBi ones that are about 4-5” long.
