Right, basically, I keep getting disconnected from MSN, and occasionally AIM, yet I'm not noticing anything else to suggest I'm disconneted... it's like I'm getting throttled down to some stupidly low speed every 2 or 3 minutes...

I'm on AOL Platinum (I know, parents think it's "friendly", I don't have to use their bloatware - router :)), could this be a sign that my ADSL Max may be coming into effect, or could it be something else?

Looking in my router config, I've got 253 far-end Fast Path CRC Errors, whatever that means, and that seems to be stupidly high compared to what I've seen it at.

So yeah, I highly doubt I'm being upgraded at 00:08 at night, unless it's one of them Indian or American center jobbies.

Any ideas? My brother's just started complaining that his PC is disconnecting from MSN, too :/

Might be that you've been upgraded to MaxDSL (they do regrades overnight/early hours of the morning as far as I'm aware) - is there any way you can check the speed/number of sync losses on the router?

Unlikely, unless you're losing synch at the same time. It doesn't "come into effect" either, though - it just happens.
If you are losing synch it might be indicative of a regrade that's taken place though, but if you looked at your router, went beyond the error counters, and found your sync rate and SNR margin, you could easily eliminate that.

It isn't necessarily "stupidly high", unless you're comparing it to the total number of cells, and getting a ratio that's high enough to be worthwhile.

Indian or American call centres are irrelevant.
AOL don't have any input to your regrade beyond the initial order, the process is automated (which makes regrades in the early hours of the morning more likely), and your exchange isn't in either country.

Well, I'm still at 2272/288 now, and I've still got the MSN connection problems this morning...

Here's my line stats, if there's anything there that makes sense to any of you..

If there's anything else that'd be of use, I can have a poke around... This problem is just bloody annoying!

Theres your problem :p

Ok, seriously...
I used to have problems like this with my telewest connection. The connection to the router was fine, it was the router playing up. I found that resetting the router did the job.

In the long term try and pursuade your parents to use Tiscali or Eclipse ;) or better yet Telewest :D

Believe me, I've tried and tried and tried to convince them to switch, but nooo. AOL is nice and friendly, even if it is overpriced, crap and full of adverts. Ah well.

I'll try rebooting the router now.

Edit: Nail. Head. Bang.

Thanks, all working fine now :D

You ain't on Max, that much is for sure.
The CRC errors are insignificant. 260 in 190950572 << 1%

Righto, thought so - "end of July" here we come. (witha bit of luck, I'll be on ADSL Max then, and with a bit more luck, 8Meg :))
