Internet Slow Only On PC

I have just moved into a shared house and it has BT Unlimited broadband.

When wirelessly connected on my phone or my girlfriend's laptop it is fine but my Windows 7 PC is very slow and frequently cuts out on Netflix.

I have an Asus PCE-N53 300Mbps Dual-Band Wireless-N600 PCI-E Adapter. I have ensured I have the latest drivers for this and have made sure the firmware is up to date on the router (BT Home Hub 5).

The PC gets about 0.60MB/s and the laptop gets about 13MB/s on speedtest.net.

Could this card just not be compatible with this router?

Thanks.

How far are you from the router? Is the speed test comparison between the desktop and laptop done in the same part of the room?

Are home plugs an option?

The speed tests were all done from the same location.

We are on the next floor up from the router but about 20 feet away.

If you are suggesting making a phone line for the room I do not think that is an option.

[EDIT] 13Mbps now.

I have got rid of processes which could be slowing the internet down such as some AMD thing which has been known to cause problems.

The problem still persists although it is slightly better. Sometimes it reaches 54Mbps but it still doesn't load that fast on YouTube and Netflix doesn't like it at all.

I was talking about these: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/peripherals/networking-and-wireless-lan/powerline-networking

they basically use the electrical mains to get the internet to your room and is generally better than wireless.

so for example this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/dynamode-500mbps-av-powerline-homeplug-single-hplg500-nw-007-dn.html would require being plugged into the wall and an ethernet cable to my computer?

Would this speed up my wireless connection to my PC?

Yes, it's basically gives you a wired connection to your router via the electrical mains.

It depends on how the electrical mains around your house is wired, sometimes it will offer better speeds compared to wireless, sometimes it doesn't. In some homes different floors will be on different circuits which can significantly affect the performance of them.

EDIT: Just noticed your wireless adapter is both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Can you check if there's any speed difference between the two?

The Internet speed increases according to speedtest and windows but it doesn't feel any faster and I still can't use YouTube or Netflix properly.

If I was to get one of these homeplugs I'd have to plug one into the router and one into my bedroom socket and pair them? Would this affect the connections with the other rooms in the house?

Yes, usually they are already paired so you just need to plug them in.

No, it's seperate from wired/wireless so it won't affect any of the other connections. You can even take out the wireless card from your PC as it won't be in use any more. It will only affect the connection if there's already an existing homeplug network being used in the building.

Okay thank you. I will let you know how I get on.

Okay so I have just set it up. My speedtest.net results were ranging from 0.20Mbps to 9Mbps.

Now I get 51.32Mbps. Wow thanks for all of your help.
