I am currently having trouble with my internet speed and would like to gather information on its speed.

Is there a site that you can mention that does a standard test that can be trusted for gathering such information?

Upload and download speed please.

Also are there any new modems that you would recommend for up to 8mb broadband? I currently use a speedtouch 330

There are 2 main reasons I would not use USB

1st - If Max picks up more than 10 disconnections in a 24 hour period BT start to think your line is unstable and will possibly change the profile on your line to a lower more stable speed. With USB modems it is a lot more likely that you could hit 10 or more disconnections a day depending on how you use your PC and internet connection. Especially in you have you email program set to hand up the connection after it has checked emails.

2nd - USB 1.1 has a Max throughput of about 12Mbps if i recall correctly and if you have a good line and acheive a high profile of say 7Mb you are near the limits of USB 1.1 already so if you also use other USB deives like wireless adapters, web cams, keyboard etc you might not get the full throughput on your line due to nothing more than the USB max throughput and most of the USB modems I have seen are only USB 1 and NOT USB 2

I have not played with enough different makes to give a full informed review but at home I have a Dlink DSL-G624M modem which running fine. In my work I regularly use a Voyager 2091 and a Voyager 2110 which again work very well but I have noticed on a poor line that the Voyager range can sync at a slightly slow rate than a Dlink ro Netegar but that the connection is more stable.
