Can anyone recommend a piece of software that can periodically download a test file of your choosing from the internet (i wanted to set it to download something from microsoft download centre) and then log the speed results? I want a speed test every hour for 24 hours for a few days as i think i am experiencing contention issues and would like to monitor it.

Thanks

I think the network usage monitor released by ThinkBroadband has the facility to do a speedtest, but not sure about a file of your choice: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tbbmeter.html

In all fairness, I don't see that downloading from Microsoft is going to give you any more conclusive results than using speedtest.net or suchlike as it's still coming from a remote host and therefore subject to what happens in between you and the server.

thank you I will take a look at that. I see your point about microsoft servers.

Basically a local IT company who resell bandwidth is screwing my dads business over. Speeds in the daytime are around 25kb/sec, yet at the evenings and weekend are 500kb/sec. So I think there must be some serious contention issues. Wanted some hard data to slap them in the face with :D
