Hey im hoping for you all to help me a little here :). Ive noticed ive started syncing with the exchange faster than usual and also my broadband speed has increased.

Supposed line rate.

I realise it shows the uptime as a 1 min. But its been like that for a week ish i had to restart the router for another reason and decided to post this.

Speedtest.net

I think speedtest failed.. I Highly doubt its faster than 99%.

Basicly im wondering is there anyway to "Squese" any more out of it manualy or its it just a case of waiting to see if my IP profile increaces?

Thanks Danny.

hows long have you had the service ?

if its less than 10 days then resetting the router might offset it a bit, as iirc adsl has a 10 day settling in period to find the best speed.

if its outside of the 10 days then try plugging the router into the test socket of the main socket, see if that helps get better stats.

only way i'm aware of to increase the ip profile is to call your isp and see if they can help, but i might well be wrong so wait for someone to confirm that :).

Ive had broadband with them for ages. Its not a new connection, it just seems to have gotten faster lately. Increasing over the last month ish?. (Im in the middle of no-where in wales too :| )

It probably is as 6meg on ADSL Max is not bad at all and, the majority of people are now on Max packages, regardless of whether they only get 2mbit the packages are often still sold as ADSL Max. (it's also only people that use that site most likely as well). So it's probably an accurate statistic just not a particularly meaningful one.

in that case have a look at the master socket and see if it has a test socket behind the front face plate, plug into that and check the stats.

could try calling them and seeing if they could change the ip profile/turn interleaving off, although either could affect stability, so be warned :D.

Currently its set up like this. I have one of them splitters on the master socket with ADSL V1.0 written on it. One side goes straight into the router which is right next to it and the other for phones. The computers get there connection from the router by wired ethernet rather than moving the router from near the socket.

I was thinking about the asking about the Ip profile. But whats interleaving :|. (Stupid question prob).

if you unscrew the faceplate off the master socket is there a phone socket sitting behind it ?

not too sure on the technical side of interleaving, iirc its used as part of an error correction system.

if i understand it correctly the main reason i mention it is that with it on speed tends to be slower, if you turn it off you should get a little faster speed at the possibility of a less stable connection.

hopefully someone will clarify/correct what i've said.

from my experience the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, then find out that you cause ya self loads of grief :D.

Tbh you can fiddle and tweak all you want but your line isn't the issue as it's syncing about as fast as it can on ADSL Max, so turning off interleaving, doing the orange wire hack and messing with master sockets won't do anything of use. The bottle necking you're seeing is throughput related. There can be many things that limit this, but tbh given your projected speed is 3.5Mbit max and you're getting near enough 6Mbit. I'd leave it well alone and be happy with what you've got.

Hey. Just wondering how do you know im on ADSL max? im not even sure what im on :P.

What does noise margin mean btw? Because its dropped from 3.0 to 2.6 on the down stream now, upstream has dropped by 0.1

Noise margin is the ratio of signal to noise. I.E how clear the signal is on the line. Bigger numbers is better for stability. Usually it'll try and settle at about 6dB, so will possibly drop and resync slower at some point if it stays at 3.

I know you're on Max because of lots of things. Your sync rates, your projected speeds, and the fact the max acceptable speed stated in the BT speed test is 7150Kbps. All of which are consistent with standard 8mbit ADSL.

Ok so after reading your post about noise ratio's i looked it up myself. Now ive checked the router again and its showing this

How is it managing to hold the connection? |:

Good question! if you stressed it with some heavy downloading it would probably drop out on that small a margin.
Tbh it's only been up for 9 hours there and SNR will vary anyway. Just leave it be and it'll sort itself out. Just avoid powercycling the router for a few days and you should see it stabilise.
