Ok so first off i just want to give you an outline of my network:

1. The downstairs (family computer, not the one that i use) computer is connected up to the internet via a cable leading to the phone line or whatever that thing is. This computer has NO internet issues at all.
2. The downstairs computer is wired to my upstairs computer (the one with the troubles) through a "NEWlink wireless 11g 54 Mbps" but we use an ethernet cable to connect it to my upstairs computer.

This is the basic outline of my network. Now the problems i have are that i can get on certain websites such as OcUK, AOL Mail, Youtube and so on. Sites such as microsoft, the xbox website and the apple music store DO NOT LOAD AT ALL. In terms of software, i use steam a lot and all of my games work with a huge amount of servers available and my xbox live connection is also completlely fine (i use a network bridge to connect my xbox to the internet, but this has nothing to do with this problem, i've checked :P). One game that does not work is world of warcraft, not that this bothers me, its just another example, it cannot download the updates necessary for play.

It looks to me like there is an issue when a secure connection to a server is needed, however being absolutly useless at networking i have no idea how to resolve this.

If anyone can think of how to resolve this issue i will use the solution given and put it to use, shortly after i will give feedback on the results. Please don't tell me to buy another router because as long as it does'nt affect my parents downstairs computer, they don't really care :P so preferably i'm looking for a fix that will not in any way alter the downstairs computer's connection. Thank you anyone who can help me!!!

Why not connect both computers to the router instead of having the computer downstairs share your internet connection with yours?

That may be the problem as the information you want is passing through the parents computer first before it gets to you.

Edit: I have checked and the NEWlink wireless 11g 54 Mbps does have 4 ports so you can connect both PC's to it. With regards to having problems with WOW, it may just be down to forwarding the ports on the router that the game needs.

These are the ports that you need to forward on the router:

3724 TCP
6112 TCP
6881-6999 TCP

Ports 6112 and 6881-6999 are for patching the game so this is probably your issue not being able to download updates.
