OK, last year I bought a Sony xperia z5. It was a great phone, but it would keep dropping my Internet. What I mean by that is, it would say i/router/any other device connected is connected to the net, but it wouldn't load anything. Then it would come up about a dns problem. Solution was to disconnect the phone from the net, everything would connect fine and then reconnect the mobile to the WiFi. It wouldn't be bad if it was once or twice a day, but this was every half an hour at least. I scoured the net and found people saying to create a static ip for the phone. But that still didn't work. Think I changed the WiFi from 2.5 to 5ghz or the other way around, still didn't work. Can't think what else I tried, anyway...

Skip forward a year, I long sold the phone as it was far too annoying. But I got my gf a new laptop for her birthday and we've now got the same problem again. Laptop connects fine, then drops everything connected to the net while still saying we're all connected.

Now I've not tried to create a static ip for this yet, but I thought I'd ask in here before doing anything. You guys will have a better idea than me. Any easy fixes? Or things to try first? Think the router is an old bt hub 3 if thats any help.

This is the problem, I had a similar issue with my network printer where it says it was connected, but nothing could access it. Only way to solve it was to restart the hub. I notcied the issue occured more often if I had too many wireless devices connected to it.

Replaced the hub and haven't seen the issue since.

When it 'drops' can you still access the router's GUI?
I'm pretty sure i can. but i haven't tried to fix anything since she's got this laptop, usually she is still using her old one because of the net problem.

I did think about this. Maybe i'll get a new one and see what that does. Cheers!
