Internet

Gremlins driving the internet trucks. Sometimes they get clogged.

What speed should your internet be? Who is your ISP? When you lose internet, can you still access your router?

Could be your router dying, a bad line to your modem, or just plain old ISP oversubscribing your area...best bet is to ring your ISP and complain.

Well 8MB but I get 1.5MB some times 2
I am with BT
I have a BT voyager 2500V, But I use the wireless from it as I use laptop.

If you mean can I get on the 192.168.1.1 yes I can.

This is great and all, but you haven't told us anything useful.

For starters, what keeps dropping? The wireless, the router, the internet connection?
If it's the internet connection, the ADSL stats (attenuation, SNR margin, sync rate) would be useful along with the IP profile (get it from the BT Speedtest, instructions in sticky).

Well some times the internet will cut off on both computers and have to reset the modem so the internet will connect again.

Well my first suggestion would be to get a real ISP... Bt suck in the evenings and throttle everything. Or your exchange is oversubscribed and you are suffering from bad contention.

It would help if you answered the question - what stops working? When the internet is "cut off", can you still connect to the router's web interface?

How are you connecting your router to the phone socket??? is it the main one in the house have you got phone extensions in the house if so are they connected??

Well I don't know what to say.
When the internet cut's off we can't use the internet at all. We can only use it to go onto 192.168.1.1 to reconnect it.

We connect the modem from the phone line.
I use wireless on mine.

I think it is the main 1. I have used the test bit on phone line and that still did not speed it up or stop it from going off every so often.

What do you mean by 'have you got phone extensions'

When the internet cut's off we can't use the internet at all. We can only use it to go onto 192.168.1.1 to reconnect it.

So yes, you can still access the router's web interface?
The Home Hub should have some lights that indicate whether the ADSL bits are connected - what are they at while your internet connection is out?

Okey well internet just cut off again as I was on Radio.. I had a look at the modem and the lights that should be on was on and none off them went off or any thing.

So any 1 know the reason?

Not without a crystal ball.

So, when this happens:
  • You can still access the router's web interface
  • You can't access anything on the internet
  • You have to restart the router to fix it

See if there's any logs on the router?
