I've got an interview next Tuesday, and they want me to take along a portfolio to see what I'm capable of.

It's for the position of a draughtsman, with the intention of evolving into a design engineer position. They know what I do, and that I don't meet their exact specification, but they are willing to accomodate the right person.

I have just completed my HNC in Manufacturing Engineering, and have quite a large volume of work supporting my final project, including a log book and a 19K word report detailing all stages of design and research. I also have my final product and an instrument I made to support my research, which is portable and fully functional. Do you think that it'd be worth my while taking the whole lot along? Anything work-based will be hard to get hold of, and isn't of the same quality as the stuff I produced for my final project which is due mostly to the fact that my emploeyer is in the dark ages technology wise, and all my work there is pen on paper.

What say you OcUK?

Yeh take it all, chances are they wont read any of the text, they will just be looking at the pictures, so make sure you can show them the best CAD pictures, rendered preferably!

Things to touch and look at are also good, providing they arnt massive!

Cheers guys.

I'll see what other stuff I can pull together to add to my portfolio as well as my final project. Bit of a pain though as my other relevant work is all over the place whilst my house is being redecorated!

As for the actual product of my project - it's all in a neat carry case including the test/research instrumentation I produced, so I won't need to wheel it in on a trolley or anything like that!

They basically want to make sure you can draw to a reasonable standard, so take it all, but separate them out, best work and prep. No one want to go through a bundle of scrap for that 1 piece of final drawing.
