Hi all,

I have been notified today that I have been short-listed for an interview on Monday that I have applied for, it is an IT & AV technician role.
The interview will be about 60 mins along, including technical questions. One of the essential criteria/specification for the role that I will be questioned about is “Demonstrable, extensive experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office packages”. What should I revise/read up on to cover this area please?

Here are the key tasks of the role:

- To carry out a wide range of technical support tasks concerned with the provision of PC based networked desktop IT services. To install new equipment and software, upgrade hardware and configure PCs to access networked services (including configuration of equipment to gain access via the available ‘wireless’ networks, VPN and portal services).

- To fault find infrastructure related issues and to escalate as appropriate to IT Infrastructure Services.

- To provide advice and software support to students and staff using standard Microsoft products and other common applications used for statistical analysis, image manipulation etc.

Thanks.

Read up on what you already know, polish what you know.

There is nothing wrong with saying in an interview you don't know the answer to something. Much better than bluffing it over something you've read over a weekend.

If you want to swat up then it seems line a first line support role, so basic support issues such as how to use the difference packages in office, as they've mentioned basic networking with Win 7, 8 and 10. Read up on virus protection and how to deal with such things.
