Interview Tips!

What do you guys do to prepare for the interview?

and how to act during an interview!

Next tuesday, im so nervous!

Sit on your hands if you can't keep them still. A little eye contact will help but don't stare. Be yourself, pretend it's family/mates/colleagues you're talking to.

Can you do the job

Will you do the job

Will you fit in

That's all they need to know.

Good luck :)

Research the company, check their website if they have one and what they deal with so you can answer any questions they ask you about it.

Make notes of what you wish to ask in the interview, try to ask a decent amount of solid questions like 15-20 is good and make it sound as if you are highly interested whilst asking them.

Dress smart but not too smart, depending on the job you are applying for wear the suitable level of clothing like if it was a manager role or a high accounts position then a full suit would be a must whereas if it was some work in a store then the usual shirt/tie/trousers/shoes combo would be fine.

Try to act as if you energetic, polite as possible, serious yet have some form of humour.(the main thing is show a good form of interest in the job available, be very talkative and try to smile often.)

I've only have had 2 interviews not get me the job yet have done 8 jobs so far in my life so seems these work pretty well. :)

Goodluck with it too.

It's usually a good idea to do a fair bit of research on the company, its clients and the role you're applying for. They will 99% of the time ask you about one of these topics.

im quite optimistic, as they asked me if id like an interview, i didnt even apply for the job! but im trying not to get my hopes up!

Just don't do what I did at my last interview and turn up with a hooker on each arm and a cigar hanging out my mouth.

Everyone always has the same kind of generic interview advice :

Stay confident, maintain eye contact (but don't stare), big yourself up but don't be a jackass, a good amount of animation/gesturing is good - ie. don't appear to be a robot. Make them laugh and you're onto a winner - you can't really prepare for that, though, it's all about timing and context. Basically, make sure you know the role.

Almost every interview is the same, however I did have one once that caught me out, big time, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The interviewers moved into very personal territory, asking about my home life. They then moved into "Look over there....in the corner...there's you. Look at him, and tell me...what does he NEED? I mean, I don't want generic stuff like success or money. What does he really NEED?"

Should have just walked out right then.

Just think of every conceivable question they could ask you and prepare a good answer for each. That way nothing in the inerview will be a surprise, you will come over as confident and you know you will be giving the best answer you can. You know interviewers will ask some of the "stock" questions such as "What are your weaknesses" etc etc.

In most cases if you are having an interview then the interviewer from looking at your application / C.V. has decided that you have the skills to do the job, the exception here is probably technical roles where you may have a technical interview.

At any rate the interview is a chance for the interviewer to confirm you skills and then asses you as an individual, i.e. do you have the right personality, will you fit into the current team, etc...

I have always found that being able to identify yourself with the interviewer is an excellent bonus, maybe a similar hobby / interest etc.. I have come out of interviews before where all we have talked about were such things and had job offers... after all for the most part if you are at interview you should be able to do the job... it's then just a question of who they like best

If you are waiting to be interviewed with other people, brag to the other candidates how good your skills are and how the job is yours for the taking, this un-nerves them and makes them insecure about their own abilities, then a week later.... helloooooooo new job :D
