Interview tomorrow...!

Hey peep,

I have an interview tomorrow for a second line IT job. I currently work as first line on a IT Helpdesk.

Was hoping you could help me with the below..

Basically, the ideal candidate should have experience in:

· Knowledge of Windows Server 2000/2003, Exchange 2000/2003
· Ideally has minimum of 1 relevant MCP qualification

These two above I'm unsure of. What's an MCP, is this a Microsoft Certification? What's the P stand for?

Also I haven't really used Server 02/03 nor Exchange 00/03 but is there anything I could say about these two to show I know a little, or impress them somehow?

MCP = Microsoft Certified Professional.. i.e you have MSCE/MCSA etc.

About Server/Exchange - it depends what level of knowledge they need.. some of it is wizard based but that will only help you a bit :p

Could say your willing to learn?

Rather than fib about your level of experience.

Im sure if you stick at what you do and learn from your mistakes, your do yourself justice in the long run.

And I assume that you do have some experience, otherwise you wouldnt of applied? How old are you?
 
Erm good luck..

an MCP is a microsoft certified professional (www.microsoft.com/mcp) if you get 4 of them you can become an MCSA (www.microsoft.com/mcsa) and 7 makes you an MCSE (www.microsoft.com/mcse), for the MCSA/MCSE path some of them are electives but you have to take specfic core mcps

Theres no point paraphrasing something about server/exchange you read on a forum to be honest, the moment they ask you anything specific you'll look like a complete idiot, if you have a stong knowledge of 2000/XP on the desktop and good understanding of networking technologies you might be able to pull it off by focusing on your positive points and your ability to learn if they arent too strict on their initial requirements

I have no experience, but that's for an ideal candidate to have all there requirements.

I fulfill them all bar the one I have listed.
 
Just got a new job and I will be in sole charge of 9 servers running windows server 2000 connected to 90 machines after an initial handover period of 3 1/2 weeks. I have no knowledge of servers though, have just been doing first line support previously and have just graduated university aged 21.

Anyone know any web pages i could read to learn more about servers e.g. exchange & server. Any tips for quick learning?

Said in the job interview I had no knowledge of servers, so I have a consultant in for 3 1/2 weeks to train me at the workplace and my own private study knowledge. Do you reckon I would be able to have a good knowledge of servers by a month of study and work training?

Whats a good answer to this? I seem to get it eveyr interview!!

I think it comes down to hard work and priorisation.... also being able to recognise when jobs are beyond your capability/authority/scope...
 
If you dont know about those things then admit it at the interview.

If you try and BS your way out of it then you'll either make yourself look an idiot and not get the job, or blag the job and then be found out on your first day.

Neither of these things are desirable.
