Yup, there's another one, just read this over at Bloody Disgusting, a planned reboot of Interview With The Vampire.

I have mixed emotions over this. As a massive fan of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles i've been wanting a faithful adaption. However think this is just going to be a cash reboot with no real attempt at staying true to the source material.

Tom Cruise did a decent enough job as Lestat but I felt Stuart Townsend did a far better job, even though Queen Of The Damned was a god awful movie, Townsend really did relish playing Lestat and got it dead on I felt. However...

"We have confirmed this afternoon that ROBERT DOWNEY JR. is in close talks to play the vampire Lestat in Universal Pictures' The Vampire Chronicles, a newly rebooted franchise based on Anne Rice's popular novels."

This just makes me cringe, Lestat was fairly young in the books when he was turned, needs to be a younger actor for a start and I feel that Downey would just take the mick out of the role.

Hmm I dunno, I think Downey has the potential to pull off the role quite well. Depends if he takes it seriously and throws himself into the role or plays his usual cheeky-chappy type character really.

I like the books, well the early books and I like Robert Downey Jr. so it could be good.

I know what you mean Robert Downey Jr. doesn't look the part but I suppose that's the test of a good actor.

With him as Lestat it will be a complete disaster. It had the potential to be a great movie if remade well, faithful to the book and with actors who would be believeable in the roles. I don't think Downey would interpret the part well at all. But even putting that aside, Lestat is supposed to be about 20 years old and 6ft tall (Anne Rice had Rutger Hauer in mind when she wrote the novel), how young he was was relevant to his character development. Oh wait, character development..... this is a hollywood movie, I guess it doesn't matter :p If they are prepared to cast so poorly I don't hold out much hope for them staying faithful to the book.

If they do remake IWTV i hope they get the casting of Armand right this time...IIRR he's about 13 in the books but they cast bloody Antonia Banderos :facepalm

I would love a new one if its anything like the Interview with a vampire and has to have brad and tom again or least one of them. Hated queen of the damned tho.

Personally I think it will be difficult to top Tom Cruise as Lestat, he really made that role his own. IWTV actually made me take Tom seriously as a decent actor.
Downey jr is a good actor but he's too old for the part and not really suited to a vampire role imo.

I'll definitely be in the queue to watch this at the cinema though.

Bit of a necro but this is now out and is an AMC series.

Grey Worm is playing the lead as Louis de Pointe Du Lac.

Wow, what a necro.

Don't have half the passion about the reboot I did when I posted the OP 13 years ago, the new trailer doesn't look terrible, neither does it look anything special.

Don't care about the race swap for Louis, I care more that the guy is a bad actor :D

Hmmm, so is Louis still the owner of a plantation? Because that's going to throw up some questions if he is. And it also appears that Claudia is now a black twenty something. Why do they keep on doing this?
Just read that they've added on 120 years to the origin of Louis story, so it's 1910 rather than the 1790's, they've also traded the homoeroticism of Louis and Lestat for straight up gay lovers etc etc. Typical modern TV show really, shame as the film is great and the earlier rice novels are decent before she jumped the shark with the later ones

i kinda care in that they seem to have deliberately wanted to cast a non-White and therefore rewrote basically the whole back history of the characters just to make it possible, which kinda makes it not IwtV any more, in my mind.
