At work I have got two PCs connected to our intranet network, both of them I have to tick the option “Use a proxy server for your LAN,,,,” to be able access the internet, without ticking this option, I would not able to access the internet.

I have seen other computers do not have this option being ticked and still they can access the net!!!!!!!

its because all communications are blocked for client pcs while the proxy server is allowed to communicate with the internet, therefore all traffic destined for tinterwebnet must be directed through a proxy server.

If the proxy server is in strict mode which it sounds like it is, you have to go to the internet via the proxy server, its just the way the network is setup.

The computers which don't require the proxy option to be selected probably have a rule against them in the firewall to allow access to the internet without going via proxy on the particular ip, i have this setup on many sites via group policy and also on the proxy server itself.

I see. Thanks for this clarification.
