Hi all, just built my PC today took me a fair few hours, all working, installed drivers, i just went to set up internet and it said "Your computer doesnt have a Ethernet Card" it does, it says it has a problem running it, everything else is fine, when i go to click, "Check for possible solutions" it wont open, well it opens and then closes, so does anyone here know what to do? Tried updating drivers.
Heres my card : Realtek RTL 8168/8111 PCI-E Ethernet Card
Any help here

Well, my first step would be to check the device manager.

Right Click "My Computer"
Click Properties
Click Hardware Tab
Click Device Manager
Scroll down to Network Adaptors

Is the card listed? Does it have a red X next it? if so, right click and enable

If the card is not listed, scroll the entire list and locate anything with a yellow exclamation mark for question mark, if such a sign exists, is it the ethernet controller? if so, thats your problem. A driver related issue.

You could also check the status of the card via command prompt.

Start
Programs
Accessories
Click Command Prompt

Type into the prompt = ipconfig/all

Is there a physical address listed?
Is there an IP address listed?

If not, defo something wrong wither, card isnt seated properly, drivers havent been installed or the card might be faulty.

Well, thats my thoughts on it thus far.

Yes..... if its Vista 64, try to locate Vista 64 Specific drivers from the manufacturers website, if the ethernet card is built into your motherboard, you could try the board manufacturers website instead.

Go to device manager, right click on problem device, click properties, in driver tab, click uninstall, restart the system after that to be safe, then on reboot, install the new drivers and restart the computer once again.

its highly probable, even more probable is the fact that your running Vista 64bit, as I understand it, driver support is still lacking for that particular OS.

Is your Ethernet card built into the motherboard, or is it a slot in type?
