Hello everyone.

I’ve recently joined Overclockers and I’ve heard some good stuff about the Motors section.

So my car is a Lapiz Blue 2015 VW Golf R, had this around 5/6 weeks now and loving it. Previously owned 2x Focus ST, Astra VXR, Civic Type R, 120D, Golf GTD.

I’ve got a lot of plans for the Golf, it’s standard mechanically at the moment with only some cosmetic mods done. I’ve also set up a channel on YouTube centred around motors, mine, and others will be featuring. Support is always appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT4cBW48RbKbkwpaQFvxJLg

I look forward to reading some of your build threads!

Morning all,

I've had a chance to upload my photos to Imgur, so here's my car:

As it stands at the moment, totally (mechanically) standard Golf R, 2015 model with some cosmetic bits added. De-chromed the front, including front/rear badges, added yellow R inlays to give a bit of contrast against the Lapiz Blue.

I'm hoping to have the car full Stage 1 in the next year or so, with potential for Stage 2 in the future as I'm wanting to get out on track around the UK and Europe.

Oh I'm sorry I never realised we were meant to be a substitute for the Youtube comments section rather than... You know, a forum where you can get feedback and advice on your channel (because let's be honest, the only reason this thread exists is so you cangain a few subs).

In that case, here you go:

Wikkid ride m8, well jel, gonna beat some lambos 4 sho :D

So in that case, if it's a forum where I can feedback and advice, why don't you propose some constructive criticism as opposed to "the videos are pretty crap tbh", of course I value opinions just as much as anyone does, but when it's one such as yours why would I take note?

This thread isn't to gain a few subs. It will be an ongoing discussion about my car, progress, issues etc etc etc.

Really like the colour and the rims look good are you going to lower it a bit it will look better

Thanks, a lot of people don't like the colour as they say it's too popular, and whilst it is, by a decent amount the most popular colour for the R, it is the only colour exclusive to the R. I'm debating on whether to get some coilovers for the car and leave the rims standard, or buy 19" rims, and lower it slightly.

Can you re-mount the front plate straight, please? :p

I know... it set my OCD off too. They are the holes which the dealer must have drilled, or the previous owner. I'm just conscious of re-drilling the holes so close to the original.

Sorry, I had to screenshot this as it made me laugh:

Anyway, putting aside the whole tragic "pls sub guys pls" approach, here's some actual feedback:

Your vids are all over the place. There appears to be no structure, no planning, you just seem to hop in and start recording and it shows. You put no effort in to your appearance either. Do your hair, lose the stupid hat (name one successful car channel which features a hat) and at the very least scribble down some notes and refer to them when recording. Don't dwell, don't go round in circles, just get it all out and move on to the next part. You can make a successful channel but you're approaching it all wrong. As it is you're just coming across as lazy and fly-by-night, and there are literally millions of channels on Youtube with that approach. Make yourself stand out a bit.

Thanks Diddums, I'll work on it :) to see how i progress then please... oh wait ;)

The videos don’t particularly slap you in the face tbh, maybe try some obscure camera angles....?

Something like this (did this years back by taping my phone to my truck)

I’d also stick TDI badges on it...... ;)

Welcome to the forums. :)

It's all in the pipework buddy, just trying to figure everything out at the moment. Camera angles, locations and everything like that.

Welcome to the forums.

My advice on your videos...? I can't hear a single thing you're saying unless I turn the volume up way too loud for everything else! Get a proper mic :)

Surprised by this if I'm honest, I've watched them back on iPhone & TV, they seem to be OK to me. My other half doesn't have the best of hearing and she manages OK too.

I have looked into external microphones :p

Nice cars capable of some good figures if you plan to mod. 5 door definitely looks better than 3 and I like the colour. I prefer the 19" Pretoria wheels but that's a personal preference.

Thanks buddy. Yeah definitely great figures, I must say it surprised me when I looked into it. It's the first 5 door I've owned and I simply wasn't fussed as they both look great.

I did actually plan to get the Pretorias, however I've read a lot about them being weak, and buckling. I actually saw a 7R with Prets in the city centre, and it's passenger front wheel was wobbling around all over the place.
