I have 6GB OCZ Platinum 1866 on an asus p6t deluxe and an i7 2.66.

About half the time I boot into windows, windows can only see 4 of the 6GB, however CPU-Z can always see the full 6GB.
Have tried rumming memtest86+ and Windows Memory Diagnosics and they turn up no errors.

Manually set to 1866, CL 9-9-9-28 @ 1.64V (databus).

Any suggestions as how to fix the dissapearing RAM would be helpful.

Windows 7 x64
QPI/DRAM Core is 1.25V (standard 1.2V) <- just for stability testing (see if it makes a difference).
DRAM BUS 1.64V (standard 1.5V) <- as manufacturure states

I immediately thought 32bit when you said that but that is obviously not the case. Maybe it is how windows is recognising your hardware as it can misterpret some hardware. For example- I am running a Q8300 @ 2.5ghz which is displayed in system, however if I go into device manager, it says I have a Q9500 @ 2.9ghz.

Strange.

Since changing the QPI core to 1.25V from 1.2V it have been ok.
(Just rebooted 6 times, and memory has shown up correctly).
Not sure if this is the cure or I have just been lucky.
Don't even know what the QPI core voltage is, and as far as I was aware only the DRAM BUS needs to be upped for functionality at higher speeds.
Well I'll update this again after a few more reboots, and keep checking back to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Scratch this post...
Mobo reset the timings/speed etc while I wasn't looking...
Soon as I bumped up the speed windows repeatedly crashed.
Think its probbaly me, and not setting the timings up right.
I know that it needs to be 9-9-9-28, but then what? The mobo has more than 4 settings and I dont really know the values to put it for the rest.

I had an issue similar to this, but mine cleared up turning on the memory remapping setting in the BIOS - don't know if this'll work, whether you've already done it or there is some deeper issue.

Just thought I'd suggest.

by any chance would memtest86 be 32bit? as 86 is 32 bit so could that be why it only sees 4gb, i am also guessing Windows memory thingy is the same as its kinda old. but thats speculation ofc

Maybe you should read an overclocking guide before you go around changing values regardless of knowing what they do. It could turn out to be an expensive tinker!

I personally OC'ed my Q6600 following a guide as it just was safer and at least talks you though what everyithing means and does.

I've checked out the max safe voltages before messing (although you would be suprised the number of guides that go over intel spec).
Just ran memtest again and it DID see all 6GB, so it must have been a glitch where it only saw 4GB - the same as windows and my whole problem.
Seems to be about a 1 in 5 change of 4GB showing up instead of the full 6GB (irrelevant of what timing/speed I use), tomorrow I will pull out the sticks and put them back in to make sure its nothing obvious like that. Will also try memory remapping.

EDIT: Discovery - All X58 boards have memory remapping on by default

This problem keeps popping up.

I have an Asus P6T SE and had the same problem with 6gb of OCZ 1333MHz DDR3 9-9-9-20.

So i sent it back and got Corsair 1600MHz DDR3 9-9-9-24, same problem.

I now have 6gb shown all the time (touch wood) but i have to run it at 1443MHz 9-9-9-24 T2 or less, i am running it at 1376 9-9-9-24 T2 just to be safe.

Perhaps something in this thread will help.

I have had the same issue for the last 3-4 months with memory not being recognised. Have gone through the mill on this issue in trying to resolve with no joy, replaced memory, motherboard and tried different processor, still the same issue. only happens when i cold boot, if I switch off and back on again all 6gig is found and works no issue.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but at present after hours of trouble shooting i have not found the fix for this. Only happens from a cold boot though so i can fix if i switch off/on again.

Anyone at OCUK know anything about this issue as ASUS dont seem to have a clue and at present their is no known fix that i have found that works.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems, i did what was suggested in the other thread and loosened my cpu cooler (Prolimatech Megahalem) and other screws a bit.

I then set my ram to it's specified settings in the bios and it booted showing 4gb, set it to 1066 and it booted showing 6gb, left it overnight and again it booted showing 6gb.

I then worked my way up till i was getting 4gb on a cold boot then turned it down a bit and it's been showing 6gb on cold boot for the last 5 days.

What was the highest clock you could acheive on the memory before you started losing the memory ? mine is G-Skill Trident and is able to run at 2000mhz currently got it running at 1600 7-8-7-22. might try your method and see what happens slowly increasing memory until i lose a slot. From what I can remeber though is that i get this issue at defaults too so may not be able to. intrested though to see what happens.

Seems to be loads of people having this issue recently, I almost lost my mind when this was happening to me..

There's a lot of different things that can cause this, bent pins in the CPU socket, not enough Vtt, memory timings set to tight, CPU cooler/mounting brackets being screwed down to tightly which puts to much pressure onto the processor, a failing IMC will cause this issue as well..

I ended up getting my processor replaced, and I haven't been bothered with the problem since then, however, I'm still not 100% sure whether or not it was my old Zalman cooler that was causing the issue, because I changed over to a TRUE when I got the replacement processor..

I know how frustrating it is though, so I feel for all you guys that are experiencing this..

I'm still at default speeds - 1066 and I am having the problem.
I don't mind running at a lower speed but slightly annoying if you have paid for 1866MHz RAM.
Taken it all out and pushed it back in, see if I keep having problems, if I do I'll need to RMA something I suppose.
Does anyone know of any RAM (6GB) that works 100% of the time with a P6T, or will I need to change Mobo?
Probably get the Gigabyte extreme if the problem doesn't fix itself, anyone know if this mobo will run happily?

It looks like a manufacturuing fault with some of the boards as far i can gather.
Looking around for solutions on other forums I can across this on Tom's Hardware.
I had the same problem as well. I purchased 7 of these mb's two had this problem, and I was using the exact same setup in each one. I talked with ASUS, they are aware of the problem.
Seems to just be luck of the draw as to if you get a working one or not.

I don't think it's a manufacturing fault with the mobos, considering I had the same issue with 2 seperate Gigabyte UD5's and 2 different sets of RAM.. I got the processor replaced and the problem is no longer present, I have both boards in different systems now, using the same 2 sets of RAM that I had used when I had the 4GB problem, and everything is fine now..

I personally think that it was my processor's IMC that was the cause of the problem for me, because when I first put the system together it would BSOD/freeze/reset itself anytime I put a load on the processor, then one day it started only booting with 4GB, but once it was running in dual channel with the 4GB of RAM the crashing stopped completely.

Now I really don't know, what to suspect. I didn't think that the processor could be the cause only the ram and mobo. After memtesting the ram i think that it is fine, leaving only the mobo at fault. IF it could be the CPU, thats another thing I have to worry about / potentially RMA. Annoyingly I don't know anyone else with an X58 setup so I can't swap and see what the cause is. I have looked around a bit more and it seems evga and gigabyte boards also sometimes have this problem.
