Hi,

I have just been reading that Invision Powerboard used to be avaliable freely but this unfortunatley stopped after version 1.3. After a bit of google searching, I managed to download Invision Powerboard 1.3 and I was just wondering whether this is legal?

From what I can gather it is perfeclty legal as this version was avaliable to download for free but I would rather make sure than get sued or something...

I have looked at open source forums like phpBB but don't really like the interface and can't justify the cost of something like vBulletin.

Thanks

Ben

Yup, perfectly legal. I'm not sure how secure it would be, though - there seem to be quite a few vulnerabilities, and I can't remember what the latest version of 1.3 was.

You might want to look in to Simple Machines Forum (SMF) and punBB as alternative, active developments :)

Thanks mate, brilliant :) I can also download IPB 2.0.0 and IPB 2.0.0 PF3 but not sure whether they are legal but could be slightly more secure...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ben

Try them all out first before you install..........Open Source stuff, that is!

Look HERE and use the 'admin' side to really test out whether or not the software is really what you want - plus there are some useful punter comments and links to boot.

It is illegal if you didnt download the file from IPS. People are not allowed to distribute the files so if you got it from somewhere other than IPS then its not legal.
