No way is it ali, it's some sort of steel I'd guess judging by how resistant to bending the earthing prongs that go over some of the mobo ports.

Might be tinned steel. Hold a magnet to it, if it sticks its steel. Take it out of the case first

I like the padded ones, definite improvement over the tabs. What're you meant to do with the tabs anyway? Bend them in, out, just leave them in place and hope they dont get in the way?

The tabs are supposed to go over the metal part of the ports on the mobo, so that the shield is grounded. Can be a bitch sometimes to get right but that's there intended purpose.
