i've just been trying out red faction guerilla, the amount of mouse lag and jerky performance was so unplayable, so i just gave up for now.

I saw something i saved in my firefox bookmarks a while ago called IObit gamebooster, apparently what it does is free up background processes to improve framerates. Just wondering if anyone has used it before?

IObit Gamebooster

I can't see it doing much on high performance systems with plenty of RAM.. I mean, these are background tasks we're talking about, and a lot of people here have quad processors with 6gb of RAM. I used to spend hours tweaking my services to run on the bare minimum, and it rarely increased my framerate at all, even when I had a single core processor. These days I just stop the ones I don't use permanently after installing Windows, and leave everything else alone.

I know what you mean about Red Faction - Guerrilla, though. That game is a show-stopper for me when blowing up buildings. If you disable "Ambient Occlusion" in the graphics settings, it should get rid of your mouse-lag.

I tried before only got me about 200extra points in 3dmark06 so i didnt see it being worth it.

If your pc is running a game so badly that this makes a difference you need to either upgrade or stop running so much junk that all your resources are used.

All it does is close it's selected programs with the addition to allow you to turn off other programs while you play a game. When you've finished you click on the taskbar icon and it starts them all up again.

It's okay but only saves around 100-200mb unless you had sidebar running

Isn't there a ATI/AMD program which does this? Supposed to be quite good with AMD ATI software although it will work on other systems.

i run sidebar and rocketdock on my desktop because it looks good and its fairly handy :P

Will be trying to play red faction again tonight with the gamebooster!

I think this piece of software can come part of a free download from a program called 'Advanced SystemCare 3'. I found the IObit didn't really make any noticeable difference since as someone else mentioned, if you already have an adequately powerful machine then freeing up a 100megs of ram won't make worlds of difference.
I did, however, find the other free utilities more beneficial.
