iOS 4.3.1 out for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

Can't remember now, but was waiting for 4.3 for ages so I'd just wait it out. Why I didn't put 4 on before now I can't remember . There was a period of a month or 2 where I literally couldn't get a shot as my kids and gf have used it constantly. Anyway I had iPhone 4 so it wasn't a priority.

This sounds very stupid of me, but can someone explain the difference between tethered and untethered jailbreaking? I'm under the impression that untethered means you can share your phone's connection without having to pay the carrier additional fees?

Here you go -

With the release of the RedSn0w iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, the notion of tethered jailbreak has been reintroduced and there seems to be a little bit of confusion about what’s different between a tethered and untethered jailbreak.

I’ve seen many comments asking more clarification about what a tethered/untethered jailbreak is, so I thought I’d give you a quick and simple explanation…

Untethered actually means nothing to you. You can reboot your iPhone, turn it off and back on without any problem. Your iPhone will boot as it normally does. Everything will work properly on your iPhone.

Tethered means that for various possible reasons, you will have to use your computer to boot your device. At the time I am writing this, if you used RedSn0w 0.9.6b4 to jailbreak your iPhone 4 for example, you might have to use RedSn0w to start your iPhone every time you reboot it. If that’s the case, you have to launch RedSn0w, plug your iPhone in and select to “just boot tethered right now”.

A tethered jailbreak is obviously not convenient at all. I actually haven’t updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1 yet for this reason (and the fact there is no unlock for the iPhone 4).

So, long story short, you want untethered only. It has nothing to do with internet connection tethering.

Tethered -need your computer to boot your phone

Untethered - don't need your computer to boot your phone ie it works 'as normal'

I wouldn't waste any time with tethered. Wait for untethered.

The only problem is imo for a tethered jailbreak on the iPad is if it goes wrong and it needs a restart

The problem for my iPod is that it runs out of battery quickly. I can always get my ipad to a charger before it goes out of battery, it's a different story with the iPod

Sweet

Got some time tomorrow morning, might re-jail break my iPad. Got to update first.

thanks for update

Good God 4.3.1 is laggy as hell on the latest iPod touches.

Slow and usually missed home screen animations and apps that sit frozen for several seconds when switched back to with the multitasking bar. What shocks me is how little his update added yet the speed decline is disastrous.

Back to 4.2.1 I go tonight. :)
