Right I'll be getting a iphone 4s soon but I've a few possibly daft questions that I'd like answers to first..

1) I've got very used to being able to determine exactly 'when' I'm online using my old e71. With the iphone though it doesn't seem very clear... What should I be looking for to know exactly when I'm using the mobile network or a wifi one?

2) Location services seem to be a big part of ios now. Is there a way to tell the iphone to only use this when connected via wifi but not at other times?

Advice greatly appreciated.

It seems you are concerned with data usage (correct me if I am wrong), if that is the case, what plan are you getting? Anything with at least 500mb of data a month will be fine unless you plan to do a lot of video streaming.

I thought location service worked with gps?

you can refuse apps the ability to use the location service, but I thought the apps dont use any data as the "service" is just a bit of data on the phone that any app can look at the gives its location (that the phone caculated via gps)

if there is a wifi symbol in the top left by your network name its using wi-fi, if its a 3g/what ever else is using the celular....

As above if you're that concerned about when your phone goes online surely you had a bobbins data plan? If upgrading or getting a new contract 500mb is enough for anyone with location services and 3G being on all the time, thats including online surfing, so you don't need to worry about it.
