iOS6 (iPhone) Facebook/Twitter integration and iCloud syncing

I'm too afraid to try the following, for fear of messing up my iCloud data, so hoping some brave soul could help me out:

  1. I know that signing into Twitter automatically 'integrates' your account with iOS (I like this). There is an option to "Update Contacts" but I haven't done this... If this IS done, can it be undone?, or would I have to delete the new information (twitter handles) manually? With iCloud contacts enabled, are these twitter handles synchronised with existing contacts??

  2. With Facebook, I have signed into the App, but not chosen to 'integrate' with iOS. As I understand, this AUTOMATICALLY downloads and updates all contacts and calenders to your phone (I don't like this). Is the Facebook contact data synchronised with existing iCloud contacts?? I know the under Facebook settings I can disabled calendar/contacts, but is this Facebook data FULLY removed?

Basically, I want the features of Facebook integration (liking, sharing) WITHOUT making ANY changes to my iCloud contacts or calendars. Kind of like how Twitter works, in that I have to manually select to update my contacts. Is this possible?

Thanks for any help or clarification.

I don't think you get any choice in the matter, which is the main reason why I haven't tried out any of the FaceBook stuff.

If you're using iCloud on a Mac you can export an archive of all your contacts as backup.
On icloud.com you can only export them as vCards, but it's better than nothing and you can select all and export them into just one file.

1. log into icloud.com > contacts > select all > export vCard
2. try out the facebook stuff
3. have everything go horribly wrong
4. log back into icloud.com and delete all contacts, import saved vCard

:)

That's a fine suggestion for saving my contacts. Still worried about my calenders being plagued with facebook events.

I like the idea of system integration, but I hate the blanket approach of synchronising all of my personal and social data.

My phone is a highly personal island of sensitive data, and Facebook is a swamp of public noise. I think it's probably better if I just don't mix the two! :)

You can turn off the syncing of Facebook contacts and calendar to your phone. Just go into Settings > Facebook and switch each one off.
