So I've been using iOS6 for the last few weeks, and I would say most of it is an improvement and there are some nice touches eg full screen safari etc. :)

However I've found the new Maps app to be complete and utter rubbish. Most small road names don't even show up but a real important thing that is missing or at least I cannot find a way to enable it, is to show motorway junctions and their numbers! A real deal breaker for me. :(

Am I missing an option for this or did they just strip 80% of the original maps app and throw it in bin? :o

Probably be a while before they are what you would expect compared to google maps. Apple were begging ex google devs to fix the maps for them.

I think the damage has already been done to Apple's reputation. They knew the maps were really bad and released them anyway. Makes you question why you pay the extra cost knowing the product isn't guaranteed to be any better than the cheaper alternatives.

Not really a case of 'paying extra' when it is a free update anyway (I'm on a 4S now but long time 3G owner - difference is amazing for anyone thinking about upgrading!). ;)

Maps before was near perfect for what I used it for...though I never used it as a sat nav 'replacement'.

Waze does the job for the moment (and its free) but I do look forward to apple's maps catching up again.

Thing is, everything has to start somewhere and at some point, Google Maps was like this.

I think Apple should have stuck with Google for another iOS iteration though, their app shows promise but it's not quite there.

Oh believe me, this free update made a lot of people pay! I'm holding off at the moment but resistance is futile in the long run.

Don't get me wrong I totally know what you're saying. :)

My first iPhone was a 3G 8gb, got it when it came out years ago, brilliant back then and the 'Speed' wasn't too far away this iPhone 4S in terms of general use or at least from what I can remember. Then the OS started being updated and the first few were good fixes etc, then jumped to OS 4.2 (or something) which included a bunch of new/usable features for the 4 and 3GS....yet the 3G got literally nothing, and from then on the phone became near unusable due to crashing, apps not opening, running out of space to quick, taking nearly a half a minute just to open messages etc. :o :(

This maps thing had moved me away from apple, disgraceful that they would release such a broken product, what were they thinking?! Their reputation is irreversibly damaged imo.

There's an exaggeration...

I really doesn't bother me, it's hardly the primary purpose of the phone is it. Besides, turn by turn navigation is fantastic I have found.

I agree the turn by turn navigation voiced by Siri is excellent. Much better and more accurate than others I have used such as Waze, navfree or skobbler.

This would have never happened under Jobs

I agree, anyone with balls at Apple should have spotted this and made a big call to set it back

anyone know why MapQuest isnt available over here? It seems to be the #1 alternative over in the US
