iOS7 causing Gmail problems

Hi guys,

I've just recently updated to iOS7, and noticed I couldn't access my emails on my phone due to receiving a connection error in the default Mail app. So I deleted my email accounts from the phone, and tried re-adding them, selecting the 'exchange' option when adding new mail accounts. This results in the same connection error when trying to access my mail.

So I deleted the accounts again, and re-added them, this time choosing the 'Google Mail' option when adding new accounts. I can now successfully access my mail, however because of adding the accounts without using 'exchange' I can no longer have 'Push' enabled on the accounts - so I don't get notified when I receive new mail. I can set 'Fetch' to check for mail every 15 mins, but this will kill the battery.

I've tried using Google's own 'GMail' app, but only the icon badge updates when new mail is received, no sound notification, no banner or message displayed on screen, and nothing shows in notification center either.

So my question is, does anyone have GMail/Google Apps working with 'Exchange Mode' on their iOS7 device?

I've had a little google on this, and it appears a few people are having the same issues on iOS7, and I'm surprised there's nothing already on this forum about it!

Cheers guys :3

Using Exchange was part of Google Sync - that's now gone unless you use a paid account, or you had it set up before and haven't deleted the account on the device. The only way to get Push email with Gmail is now to either use the official client (which isn't as good as Mail IMO and doesn't allow you to share via email without copying and pasting) or to find some other solution.

As for Push saving battery...it doesn't. It maintains a constant connection. Fetching your email is the better way to go, even if that's every 15 minutes.

In other words...set your Gmail account through the normal route, Fetch, job done :)

Thanks for the reply!

Ah I was under the impression Push saved more battery, if this is the case I guess i'll just have to use the Fetch option with the native app, because like you say Google's app isn't really the best heh.

Thanks for letting me know though :3
