IOSH is the Chartered body for health and safety professionals. With more than 40,000 individual members, we’re the biggest professional health and safety organisation in the world.
I did the managing safely IOSH course. It was 4 days long with an exam on the afternoon of the fourth day. We also had to do a project afterwards and send it in for marking.
Did one of these last year as well as the "Incident Investigation" one day affair. As above really, very dry subject matter but if you get a decent lecturer ( we did, thankfully ) it can be ok. The pace is generally pretty laid back and a lot of it is common sense backed up with following a laid down format and procedure. Don't be put off when you get your IOSH "Workbook".......you will cover the salient points contained within but not from cover to cover, it's good to have as a point of reference for later though.
As already said, can be quite boring in parts but some of it can be quite interesting and if you have a good bunch of students there can be some good debate on some of the course material and subjects. It wasn't half as boring as I was lead to be believed by some other folk who had done the course before me.
The exam is nothing to sweat about either ( multiple choice ) and as Danny UK said, a project in the form of a full risk assessment is required to be completed and handed in either at a later date. We were on a residential course so most of us worked on the risk assessment for an hour or two in the evenings and handed in the RA on the morning of the last day. It's just your bog standard RA, fairly straightforward.
