Dear all I have recently encountered a rather bizarre problem that has begun to really irritate me. A day or two ago I tried to shutdown my PC. I selected shutdown on windows xp and windows proceeded to shut down. However I believe for a second or so I saw an error of some sort, but then it dissappeared. Windows xp took quite a while to shut down. Eventually it did so did the monitor, and the hard drives. However the fans on the cpu and the casing did not power down but remained on!

I then tried to power down the system by pressing the power switch on my antec 900 casing to no avail. The only thing that it did was reboot the system. The system rebooted with no problems.
I have noticed increased xp shutdown times.

I've tried going into the bios and changed the settings. I've even pulled the power socket out and cleared cmos (left it to the clear settings switch for a couple of hours)

I hate having to power down my system from my corsair 620HX PSU. I just down know what to do.
I've only built this rig two months ago I had no problems up until now.
Could anyone please help find the light at the end of the tunnel.

Holding the power button for 6 seconds should power down the system. As you've only had it 2 months, would a windows reinstall be pertinent?

edit: And welcome to the forums. Read the FAQ, don't link to any competitors and we'll all get along fine :)

I had something like this happen it was due to the software that came with my Samsung monitor,do you have a samsung monitor and did you install the magic tune that came with it

However the fans on the cpu and the casing did not power down but remained on!

Are you sure your power supply does not have Cool Guard? This will keep all the fans running even after the pc is shutdown.

Hope this helps

Dear all,

I would like to state it's been a number of years since I've wrote anything in any forum, so please do forgive as i'm not hip to the hop with slang!

I would like to thank you all for welcoming me, and for the helpful comments.

melbourne720: Yes i've had the rig for only to months but i've installed a heck of a lot of stuff on it! So I would like to refrain from reinstalling win xp :D I also tried holding the power button for around 30 secs but to no avial.

Chabsy: Nope I do not have a samsung monitor thou I do have a samsung phone and a untouched R60+ laptop due to this fiasco :(

neo36uk I believe the corsair 620 hx does have cool guard but the system didnt need to cool down prior to this problem.

I also cleared cmos with no avail :(

Mys system specs are:

Intel Q6600 Quadcore CPU G0,
ABIT IP-35PRO S775 MOBO,
Corsair TwinX 4GB DDR2 8500DOM,
Clabs XFi Platinum Fatal Champ,
CORSAIR HX 620W MODULAR PSU,
SSUNG SH-S203N/RSMN LSCR SATA,
500G WD SATA2 8MB,
512MB BFG 8800GT O/CLOCK2,
ANTEC NINE HUNDRED GAMERS CASE.

I tried unplugging and taking out the disc drives, sound card, and memory. I also took the cmos battery out and left it for 10mins. Still didn't sort the problem out :(
