Hi guys,

I managed to get my sons computer built and everything installed, he has internet connection via an Ethernet cable from the 2nd port of my ASUS RT-AC3200.

I have installed various games for him but when I checked his IP address it has the same IP address as mine via http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup.

Now I'm worried if he does something stupid such as hack or something (remotely possible) It then runs the risk of my accounts also being banned.

Is there a way of him being provided with a different IP address than that of mine.

I'm sorry, I don't have a clue about network settings etc so your help would be appreciated.

~Mark.

That IP would be your external IP address, not your internal one. If you are using DHCP, an IP address will be assigned dynamically each time the PC is powered on and connected to the router.

Assuming you mean gaming accounts - realistically, only his accounts would be banned.

IP address bans are manual and are only going to be handed out by the admins of the community/servers where the hacking has taken place.
Unless you're playing on the same servers together, regularly, then I'd not worry too much.

OK so its nothing I should be worried about then, I just hope he is sensible enough and of the mature mind not to do foolish things.

Edit..

Is there not a solution of changing the external IP address of my sons PC, he is currently using windows 10
