Virgin Media is my ISP. For some strange reason my static IP has changed by itself. I noticed when I tried to log into a game and it said that I as logging in from an unrecognisable location. I googled my IP and it has changed to a new one. This new IP is located over 200 miles away in Lewisham but it is still provided by Virgin Media. Going into my router settings shows that my IP has indeed change and that I am not just browsing the internet using a proxy.

This has caused some connectivity issues with some games and some port forwarding issues.

Does anyone have any idea how and why this could have happened?

Presumably you pay for a static IP? If you do then you should contact VM.

VM don't supply static IPs by default, although they do have the reputation of not giving out new ones very often. Mine hasn't changed for over a year.

What have you configured so that it affects port forwarding?

What connectivity issues are you experiencing?

The "location" of the IP address is not *meant* to be accurate all of the time.

Don't say this to me haha , have a lot configured with DNS , port forwarding , for servers and hosting etc . Well I'll look forward to the day mine changed then , pain in the arse , will give them a bell tomorrow to try and guarantee me this I.P indefinitely

You only get static IPs with the business service. VM's residential service uses dynamic IDs. Although they don't change often, VM don't offer a fixed IP address for home users. You'd have to use something like DynDNS to simulate a fixed IP.

The only way I could ever get my virgin residential ip to change was putting a different MAC address behind the super hub modem.

As above, Virgin only do static ip to business customers.
