Hi there we are with vodafone broadband and normally get around 2mb connection the last few days we have been getting 0.1mb and it's painfully slow. We have contacted vodafone about 5 times in the last week and they just fob us off and are useless. Is there any way to get the IP profile higher? We have just got the mac code and gone with pipex business broadband so that may be better. Atleast we can understand them when we phone up. But in the time it takes to change is there any way to raise the IP profile?

Thanks Phil

Had this problem with someone before, took a lot of phone calls to the ISP to get BT to look into the line. Most the time there is a fault on the line, for example, it drops out for a split second a day and it will keep lowering the IP profile.

I recently had this sort of thing happen to my connection but i wanted a day and a half and all went back to normal. Wait it out a bit, and dont turn off/reboot your router. :)

EDIT: ! I DID turn off my router overnight and it solved the problem!

You need to look at your local setup. Ensure that the router is connected to the master socket and make sure that every phone etc is filtered.

we only have one socket in the house I have checked that and made sure the wires are all ok and they are fine. Replaced filter with a brand new one replaced wire. Tried a diffrent router. It's not our end I don't think tried all the options!

I had this recently, was seething with rage after some woman from India was telling me that a 0.1 mb connection was an 'acceptable speed'

After 25 minutes of me showing her speedtests etc, I got through to her supervisor

He said they'd look into it and get back to me

The next morning it was fine again

A BT engineer is coming tomorrow so hopefully they will sort it out. I have mentioned to vodafone that the IP profile is stuck but they were having none of it. Our internet went completely down on saturday for 8 hours and we phoned them up and they agreed to send a engineer to check it. So hopefully as of tomorrow our problem will be sorted!

Well there is a update to this, I have had two engineers visit now and still getting problems. The first day the engineer came ran some tests and that all came back ok and went off to the exchange to check things over. He phoned to say he couldn't see anything wrong and it should sort itself out after a few days saying that 0.12mb is acceptable speed! Later that day the line kept dropping and didn't come back for several hours and was no better so we phoned up again and got another engineer booked for today.

He arrived today stated that he had been the exchange and rewired us? Our phone and internet did turn off for about 30 mins. He then replaced the faceplate and ran some tests and raise the ip profile. He left saying it would be ok and we should get speeds of around 4mb. We synced at 4800kb but still had a ip profile of 135k but this has slowly been dropping out during the day and we are now back to 750k sync and ip profile of still 135kb. We are going to phone again tomorrow as there must still be a fault on the line. It's been driving us crazy as the internet is working but you click and page and it will drop out etc it's worse than I remember 56k being.
