Hi guys,

I've been connected at 1540kbps for 93 hours now, yet my IPProfile remains stuck at 823k.

I thought it readjusted after 72 hours?

Thanks :)

If your ISPs telephone support is any good, it might be worth just directly getting in touch and asking them to advise on how to reset it quicker.

My ISP, Plusnet, have refused to reset my SNR because they claim my line isn't suitable for it and if they did reset it, it would eventually settle at 600k, apparently.

I'm attempting to prove them wrong by using the custom firmware on my DG845GT to reduce the SNR manually to increase the speed whilst maintaining a stable connection. I'm at 72 hours with no problems so far yet.. the IP Profile hasn't reset :(

Hutchy wasn't suggesting they touch your target SNR margin. The IP profile is a separate feature which they can also ask BT Wholesale to reset. Other that, the only advice is keep waiting.

I hate that BT IP Profiling things, always messing up my line sync and SNR this is why I left plusnet to join virgin media cable. Never like BTWholesale at all. IDNet was a better choice as they can reset ip profile in no time!

Oh seriously this IP Profile thing is such a pile of crap. Really.

Over a week of rock solid totally steady 1500kbps connection and finally, I got it - an IP Profile of 1300ish. Awesome.

Then about 2 hours ago I underwent what happens on my line from time to time - a period of instability. During this time I connected at.. 580kbps. I was connected at this speed for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I'm now back and up running properly at my usual speed again - 1536 - but...

Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 548 k

Seriously?! Now I've got to put up with a crap internet connection for another 130 hours until it resets again!!!

ARHGHGHGHGHGHHGHG

Why do they use this stupid system of IP Profiling? Why cant I just get whatever I am connected at?!?!

It might be worth contacting Plusnet and getting them to set you on a ADSL profile line. I had the same problem as yourself at a previous house. I threatened to leave as they wanted to charge me for them to change it to non ADSL max. They then set me on a permanent 2mb line and I had no more issues.

I'm not 100% this will work for you although i see no reason as to why it can't and won't. They did half my upload speed because of this though :(

i had a customer who had an adsl line that went up and down constantly. they'd usually end up with 100k up and down synch speeds. after months of engineer visits they did indeed lock it @ 2Mb. i can't remember if it was adsl classic or max it was locked at tho, got a feeling it wasn't 272k upstream so capped on max, somehow?

might be worth a try...

It'll be classic I think as max is classed as 'upto x amount' could be wrong though :p

Yes a fixed rate connection would be advisable in this case; many providers do not actively advertise the service any more - but it is available on request.

Don't let them charge you for it, as it doesn't cost anything to change the tail speed of the line for BT Wholesale.

If you need any more advice, feel free to drop us an e-mail or add us to MSN/Skype - what ever you prefer.

I would deffo contact isp try and get a fixed rate line, I would push for a 2mb one too.

Not sure about the 2Mb fixed-rate line. If the line isn't always capable of 2Mb (it's synced at 1536), won't it just refuse to connect at those times? That could get frustrating!

Before he had problems with his line he could sync at 2mb+ from what I recall, Fox have you spoke to Plusnet to see if they can get a BT eng to come out and take a look at your line, try and swap it to a new pair etc?
