So these "IP Profiles" are realy starting to make me go

Why do they exist?
Why can't we just dowload to the max at what we sync up to?
Why can I sync @ 7000+ yet have a profile of 2500?
Why does it seem to never get "stuck" at the full speed?

Sorry I just had to have a little rant, I just don't understand why they exist. Why must my connection be bottlenecked @ 2mb when I sync @ 7mb.

When I hold a sync of 7mb+ for days why can't there systems take the hint and let me have 7mb speeds. I thought it was supposed to rise up within a few hours now. How can something computer controlled get "stuck" why can't it just see my sync speed and open the bandwidth floodgates.

aaahhhh thats better :D

but as a serious question guys, why do they exist? if we sync at x speed why is there another system in place that says we can't have x speed have y instead untill you ask support to get it reset. I just don't understand it.

Also I think ISP's should have the power to reset stuck profiles there and then. Unless something has to be altered in the exchange, then I would like my own key cut please.

(also I do realise that some people would be over the moon to get 2mb speeds, but I just hate knowing that I am within spitting distance of my exchange yet some little IP Profile glue gun keeps sticking my profile to the floor)

Because if there wasn't an IP profile (or it was stuck too far above your sync rate), you'd get nothing - packet loss would make your connection useless.

There isn't - it automatically increases, other than the edge cases where the profile gets stuck.
There's been some conjecture about why it gets stuck, and BTw are working on stopping it sticking - but you're talking about millions of lines, all generating events once a day, some generating dozens of events a day. It's a hell of a lot of data to work with.

Also I think ISP's should have the power to reset stuck profiles there and then.

I'd like the power to reconfigure my ISP's network kit too. It's unlikely to happen.

Thing is though, tolien, LLU networks don't have profiles and manage just fine. With LLU, you more or less get the throughput of your SYNC, and I've never had a problem with that.

BRAS profiles and even the BT capping system (capping you down to 8 megs on "ADSL Max" when you could be getting up to 12 megs on the same G.DMT connection), sucks.

IP profile for your line is - 2500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 832 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7424 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2227 kbps

Meh as much as I love ADSL24's prices and allowence I have had so much trouble with bad speeds and stuck profiles it's getting a little  now.

Im sure technicaly it's all BT's fault and nothing to do with ADSL24 but with Zen I never had a single hickup.

Im starting to wonder if it's because I went onto a office package, which I thought had first priority and faster speeds etc. I don't actualy need the upload, the traffic priortisation just sounded good, and the 8PM off peak suited me much better because of my work hours.

Anyways enough ranting, Tolien do you know if IP Profile changes take effect without switching the router on and off? As when I do swicth it off it drops my sync a little which will proberly knock my profile down somemore.

Also can you confirm a little  I was told by BT today. If my exchange gets too busy, I think he said something along the lines of over congestion then users get kicked off. I always thought that no matter what the state of congestion in the exchange you would'nt get kicked just get lower speeds, which we all see at peak times.

Im pretty sure IP Profiles have nothing to do with exchange congestion.

None of the LLuers run ATM networks so any comparison is a dud.

AFAIK no one in the world does 12Mbps over normal ADSL either - it's hardly BTw-specific...

You don't have to restart the router.

It wouldn't happen with the exchange, but if a Central (or a segment of one) was overloaded the ISP might perform some load balancing (i.e. kicking users off and letting them reconnect to another Central/segment)

Same problem here with ADSL24 too. They are a great company, but my profile has been stuck at 2000kbps for a month. I'm talking to them over the ticket system. Its probably just BT's fault, not getting of their back sides.

It's hard for companys like adsl24, aquiss, titanadsl and the rest of the resellers of entanet to get things going quicker as they all have to depend on BT to get of those chairs and do some work.

Yea thats what i've been thinking. But the support from ADSL24 is top class. They reply within a few minutes if they are online, or just in an hour or two if they aren't.

The Enta resellers all have to push Enta to push BTw, and from experience it's Enta's support that can be the weak link - Enta are big enough that they should have no trouble cracking the whip...

So do Enta resellers not deal direct with BTw?, rather they pass it on to Enta who then pass it on to BTw?. Would explain why I seem to be going round in circles to get something done.
Oh how I wish Zen offered an off-peak allowence.
