not sure if this is the right section for this. whats the go to camera these days thats good value for money to mount on wall outside house. iv seen the unifi cameras from ubiquity but dunno if there is something recommended by people these days. looking for value for money.

Only the most expensive Unifi Protect cameras can be mounted outdoors. Most are only indoor rated.

Most cameras are much of a muchness unless you want a specific feature. So long as they are IP68 or better and have a suitable infra-red or white LED illuminator range for what you want then all the brands are pretty similar.

We have Hikvision 4K cameras on all three exterior walls (we live at the end of the street). Never had a single hiccup with them, but they're not the cheapest. I just have them plugged into our core switch (PoE) and segregate them so they can't access the Internet. My Synology DiskStation (NAS) pulls the feeds and records onto a dedicated 6TB drive, and records over the oldest videos as it goes. Been running years without a problem now.

Nope, the G3 flex, which is the 'default' camera can be mounted outside no problems at all. they are about 60-70 each and work great. I have about 15 of them inside and outside. over 2 sites.

I'd recommened the unifi protect system for an easy to use easy to install affordable good performing system if you are looking to install no more than about 10-15 cameras at most on one controller. You can upgrade to beefier system but it's more $$$

Theres none of the weird chinese style stuff that I've seen in these knockoff systems, the unifi stuff is really nice all controlled via phone app as well if you wish.

i just need one camera was hoping for a camera that records when there is motion and just dumps the data to a windows shared network drive.

got any footage of these cameras? be interesting to see how the quality is.

well they don't dump to a windows drive, you have to use the app or PC. I suppose if you want THAT, then you probably looking at generic IP cam with RTSP and something like a synology unit to act as host. The unifi systems are more integrated, so you dont need to mess about but lack that 'just dump it to a network etc' feature. Think like unifi = iphone . what is does it does it very well but it does it it's way.

it detect movement with the frame and you can adjust what area it looks at and how sensitive it is etc then you can review these events ad it marks them in the timeline. I don't have any footage im sure there some on line here's literally the first link i found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTgKDSe8YGo

Hikvision 4K (you'll need a 4K monitor to see the true quality). The download password is 'overclockers' without the quotes. Yes, I know the Beamer needs a wash lol...

You need to click the little 'SD' in the lower right and select 'Original' or it'll look crap.

Yes. The G3 Flex has no IP rating. They say it can be used outdoors in a sheltered location. Only the G3 Pro and G4 Pro have IP ratings. So if they die, from being waterlogged, or they freeze, dint expect any warranty cover.

the quality on that is amazing. how much that camera cost?

OK yep. I see what you mean. Still you can use them outside, i mean I've been using them outside for well over a year now rain snow etc, not even sheltered. But they do only cost 60£ if you want better you need to pay a bunch more. You pays your money.
