Hiya all, i am going to buy the componants listed in this thread from ocuk tomorrow http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17908143

Some people have reccomended to me that i dont go for the ip35 pro but i go for an p5q deluxe instead.

Are there any real benefits of me doing this? Is the p45 chipset as good as the tried and tested p35??

Are the overclocking functions of the asus board as good as the abit?
Would they both take 8gb of memory fine??

many thanks

tip

The p5q deluxe is supposed to be good for 500MHz and it will take 8gb no probs.

If you have a look over on XtremeSystem Forums (in the P5Q Deluxe thread), you will regularly see screenshots of the P5Q Deluxe hitting over 600Mhz with a dual core, I have not seen examples of the Abit IP35 Pro doing this (as good as it is), also the P5Q Deluxe will take 8GBs of Ram, indeed it supports up to 16GB.

the very high (e.g. 600) fsbs on P45 typically come at the cost of very relaxed trd to get there resulting in performance no better than lower fsb with lower trd so unless you have a CPU with low multi that needs that very high fsb to reach it's max core overclock there is probably ultimately little difference in overall performance.
Of course P45 also brings potentially better CF if that's a possibility down the line.

1 of the users on the abit USA forum whose opinions I respect/trust has run a P5Q (can't remember the exact version) & preferred his IP35 Pro overall.

The IP35 Pro will run 8GB OK & works great with a Q6600.
If you do go with the Pro I would recommend the G.SKill 8000 or 8500 over the Corsair though.

Cheers for they replies.

Why the gskill over the corsair?? Any reasons ??

I am really confused over which board to buy, i only want to run the chip at 400 x 8 and the memory at pc2-800 and that will be plenty fast enough for me.

P35 chipset will be fine then.

It's a combo that's known to work very well whereas there are fewer reports to judge the Corsair by so it's a case of recommending something that I know 100% will work well together as opposed to something where I don't.

If you only want to run DDR2 800 then there is no need to buy PC8000 or PC8500 though, PC6400 will do fine.
