Hi

First post so please go easy on me.

I bought this bundle: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...B) OCZ PC-8500 RAM / Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler

and have followed the overclocking guide to the letter. Checked and double checked every setting in all the screens. I am not an overclocking guru but I do know about computers so I am 100% I got everything right.

Once I have put all the overclocking settings in my PC will not boot. I do get the initial POST(?) screen with the speed of the CPU, ram etc then I see the raid bios POST(?) but after that either:

  • The screen goes blank and the PC hangs
  • The screen displays what I think is the intial POST screen but with most of it missing and text is all over the place with some random characters thrown in for good measure

After phoning OC support I have updated the BIOS to V11 and tried leaving all the guide settings the same and reducing the CPU core voltage to no effect.

Firstly has anyone else had any trouble with this bundle? Does anyone know any other diagnostic procedures I can perform? Failing that if the components are ok can someone explain in a step by step fashion how to get a stable overlcock?

I have this PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.2 PSU - Black Nickel

and an old 7900GT PCIe Graphics card.

The LCD on the board displays 94 when the machine hangs on boot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That psu is not amazing but i don't think its going to be the problem, especially as your gpu isn't so power hungry.

What speed are you trying for?

For 3ghz you need to set the fsb to 333 and make sure the ram divider is set to within the specs, but initially id try a simple 1:1 ratio (means the ram will run well below its rated speeds at 333mhz)

Without seeing how good (or bad) the instructions are its hard to guess where your going wrong currently.

The bundle guide tries for a 3.3ghz overclock and based on the reviews of the bundle deal no-one else seems to be having an issue overclocking to that speed.

After doing some reading I believe my best course of action will be to increment the speed in 5mhz increments until it wont boot then up the Vcore on the processor to make it stable.

I am wonder though if I can keep my ram settings @ 5-5-5-15 2.2v without worrying about the CPU overclock. I don't want to post the instructions in the guide for obvious reasons.

My worry is that somehow one of the components is not working as it should which is why the overclock wont work. If so I want to RMA it and get one which will.

I also have this bundle along with the oc guide, I have followed everything exactly as the oc guide stated. My pc seems fine for about 30mins too 45 mins then for some strange reason the monitor go's into standby and I have too press reset to reload windows...

this is very frustrating and I cant for the life of me figure out what is causing it. I have a ATI HD2400 graphics card and a 580 hiper psu...and running winxp pro sp2
