IP35 RAM not being detected at correct speed

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this. Sorry, I'm not an overclocker and although I've built my fair share of PCs over the years, this is going to sound a bit lame/naive:-

Anyway, I have brand new:-

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)

on a -

Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I've just built it and installed Vista and it all runs fine and stable. My problem is I ran CPU-z and noticed that my RAM is being detected as PC2-5300 (333 MHz).

Is there any reason why my motherboard doesn't detect my RAM as 8500 ?

My entire system is not overclocked or tweaked in any way, just literally plugged it in and running with all default settings, I would have thought it should be able to detect it ok?

Can anyone help to throw any light on this?

Thanks for your reply MeatLoaf.

CPU-z gives me the settings under the 'memory' tab:

DRAM Freq: 340.0 MHz
FSB: DRAM: 1:1
CL: 5
tRCD: 5
tRP: 5
tRAS: 15

That's right isn't it? I don't really understand it, but I read/heard that the timings for this RAM are 5-5-5-15.

Its only running at 340Mhz ( 680 DDR2 ) as youre running it 1:1 with your CPU.

There should be a divider option in the bios. If theres a 1.5x option that will up it to 510Mhz and closer to the proper 1066Mhz speed.

Mske sure its getting thye correct voltage to operate at this speed tho, there will be an option in the BIOS to change :)

Ok, I have been into the BIOS and made the changes you recommended.

Indeed, I have been able to set the multiplier to 1.5 (thereby attaining 1020Mhz presumably?) and I have also upped the supplied voltage to 2.2v.

However, although my new CPU-z readings are now;-

DRAM Freq: 1020.0 MHz
FSB: DRAM: 1:5
CL: 5
tRCD: 5
tRP: 5
tRAS: 15

CPU-z still sees my memory as being PC2-5300!!! ... should I be worried about this?
