Hey guys, looking to get an iPad 2 soon. I know the new iPad is out but I don't really have the money to buy the new iPad, especially if I go with he 32GB model.

My question for you guys is what size should I be going for? I'm looking to use the iPad as a laptop replacement, so I'll be using the internet, creating word documents on Pages and Power Points etc. Schoolwork. Playing games from the app store, storing some Music, not a lot. Probably well under 300 songs. I may also store the occasional Movie, but again not lots.
Seeing as it is a laptop replacement, I will also be needing a keyboard, any good recommendations?

I think you'd get by fine with 16GB although more is obviously desirable. My logic was, if I'm already spending £400, what's another £80 for twice the capacity?

Incidentally, if looking to buy an iPad2 new, only the 16GB model remains, so if it's 32GB you're after then you're looking at second hand or finding somewhere that still has remaining stock of them.

If you're looking at using the iPad as a laptop replacement then I'd spend the extra amount and go for the 32GB.

I'd probably go for a 32gb Apple refurb then. They're essentially 'new' as they're remade and you'll get a full years warranty.

i have got the 32gb, but have never gone over 16, so 16gb would have been fine for me. I guess it all depends on whether you will be storing lots of movies etc on it or not

Downloading the HD lectures of a course on iTunes U, is equating to nearly 20GB of video (for 20 hours). Hopefully I can manage to store the content 'offline' once I'm done with it, so I can reference it again easily without redownloading huge chunks to find a 5 minute segment, but if I had a 16GB model I would have to grab the non-HD version or be discarding earlier videos before I finished the course to make room for the newer ones.

There might be smaller size courses out there (this is the first one I'm following), but to give an idea of how quickly that storage space can go.

Not that this is helpful much, but I managed to get the 64GB version for about £320 thanks to a cashback website.

Loved that you wrote 300 hundred lol

Honestly, get as big as you can afford. Because you will easily find content to fill it with

Absolutely get the 32. I posted the same question on here and ended up getting the 32. Really glad I did because it soon fills up and it wasn't much more expensive.

i think either is fine, but as a laptop replacement, you may wanna think twice as it does not have a keyboard

For both the iPad and iPad 2 I went for 32Gb since the extra cost for double the storage space was minimal in comparison and a lot of apps are starting to use a lot of space, add this to other files/songs/videos you might want to load onto the device, that 16Gb gets eaten up fast.

I've got 16gb new iPad Air video on my home pc, I can stream all my movies,tv and music over the air, obv using my mobile data connection to to creat a wireless hotspot, all the data I use I the iPad is apps really. I've got a 16gb wifi version

Fixed! :)

I've seen quite a few people with 16GB iPad1/2s complaining at how the apps are bloating since the iPad3 and I do sympathise to be honest.

It's mostly apps with a lot of graphics which all need to be stored at twice the resolution. That said, some apps seem to be bloating massively but don't actually have that much in the way of graphics which is baffling.

I think Apple are going to need to do something about this at some point as, if it gets to the point where 16GB users are literally running out of space because of Retina display updates that they don't need, there's going to be a bit of a backlash.

It's all just part of the plan to get people to upgrade next year, 32gb, 64gb and 128gb and with a slightly faster chip. They had to hold something back for next March! ;)

I will be honest I never even considered it was happening when I hit update all. I just noticed some of the space on my ipad 1 has been eaten into!

If I choose to remove games from the ipad is the game save backed up anywhere if I decided to reinstall? I know it is on a restore but is there somewhere to back up game saves?
