Anyone had any luck with a 3rd party one? I need to get one, but will be only using it with CF cards, so would have to use an extra card reader connected to the CCK.

we have a CF card in our SLR, and just got an iPad 2 with the apple camera connection kit. I'd guess (?) that you could plug in a USB CF reader into the USB reader, and subject to the files being in the correct directory type, read them just fine.... Do you want me to test it out (will be quite a while till its done though as we are off on honeymoon this weekend!)

Don't know about third party ones, but the official one comes with two connectors. One allows you to connect the camera via USB. That's what I do with my CF cards.

We use the official apple to transfer pictures from an SD card to the iPad 2 and it works just fine. Haven't tried the USB connection from the camera yet though.

The voltage/amps cannot remember which, is so low from the ipad usb adapter, that many usb card readers or usb sticks for that matter will not work. Some will though.

Those that connect via USB do you use a card reader? Last time I tried connecting my camera via USB to my PC the connection was pretty slow.

Also does it read RAW format?

Yes it will read and store RAW files on the iPad.

From what I've read, Apple capped the speed/power of the USB connection because they realised that people were using the USB adapter to do all kinds of things, such as use third party keyboards and such.

It's now supposed to be slower transferring photos, but they introduced the change back with the first iPad, so I've never see how much quicker it was.

I think it takes me about 15 mins to do an 8gb CF card full of RAWs.
