iPad 2 news, new?

If they just threw in more memory and a better screen I'd be happy, as these are the only two things I 'miss' after using the iPhone4. More battery life would be great too. If they tick those boxes I'm sold.

Guaranteed to have at least a front facing camera, they have been pushing FaceTime....

Yeah, hardly breaking news. The iPad 2 was always getting a front facing camera :D Lets see some specs for the A4 successor! Still Samsung's hummingbird/Orion core? or Apples own?

It's common sense to assume the new iPad will get a release date sometime next year. It happens with every line they release.

I personally can't see it happening 1st half of the year though, and the additions like front facing camera are almost guaranteed.

32GB minimum I reckon, faster ARM/Cortex processors and better screen.

Thats about it I think.

Rear camera is stupid idea lol...unless its AMAZING quality..

Otherwise I would rather not walk around with a 9.7" camera which everyone knows is a iPad lol

Lol, there's this guy on another forum saying I should've waited for the 3rd/4th gen iPad because I got ripped of.. As the 3/4th gen will be so much better... What a idiot lol. Yes.. I'll wait till 2013 and even then they will still be improving

I deliberately held off getting the first gen iPad after seeing the specs and then seeing the iPhone 4 come out and the specs that had. I'll mostly likely pick up a 2nd gen one if it has the upgrades you'd expect it to have.

What would be the benefit of another core? The device doesn't have 'true' multitasking anyway. The only things which can run in the background are pretty low-demand stuff.

Remember that all we interact with is the surface veneer. The OS itself will always have plenty of processes running simultaneously. Plus, the running "App" can use multiple threads.

Though I did think Brian's post about not buying one until it is dual core was funny. Applying the traditional PC enthusiast's fixation on maximum specs is to completely miss the point of these new style devices. Though the iPad having half the RAM of the iPhone4 is stingy and needs sorting :p

I haven't missed anything. I remember single core CPUs and they were **** and power hungry. I also made the mistake of jumping on the Atom bandwagon when they were released and those are **** too. The Atom suddenly got better when they released the 330 and finally netbooks using it made sense.

Qualcomm already has several dual core Snapdragons. It's just hard to find anyone putting them in phones yet. I'd have thought Microsoft would have at least made it a hardware requirement for third party producers. But it doesn't appear to as the Windows 7 phones from HTC at least are all still using single core. So I won't be getting one of those either.

How's your bad experience of single core CPUs in a traditional computers running a desktop OS transferable to iOS devices?

Windows phone 7 would not have been able to be released if they set those requirements. This will be the main reason they did not do so.

Until the phone manufacturers are willing to put the chips in then it can't move forward, which will be cost driven more than anything else.

Because single core ARM chips suck. The Apple A4 sucks. But it's a better performer than single core Snapdragons (ars did a comparison). Then you look at the Playbook vs iPad comparison and you see how much more snappy the PlayBook is using the dual core ARM. I've yet to find a smartphone that doesn't leave me thinking "this needs another core".
