iPad 2 screen repair?

It's not that easy to do yourself, the part cost about £30 and it's very easy to damage the wifi antenna and the 3G antenna if it has one.
I have fixed about 5 now but don't like doing them much tbh.

Only bad experience. Not only did they **** up screen replacement and left me with phantom finger presses and dirt under screen. They've broke 3G and wifi is dodgy. So probably broke the aerial.

Spend the extra and go to apple.
These are the ****** jokers I used, avoid at all costs.

Surely you're covered if they messed it up? That's a faulty repair, I would demand they refund it.

what do apple charge to fix/replace? i assume they don't have ipad 2's anymore?

they wont repair it, they will give you a refurb model which is basically brand new.

the cost depends on what ipad you have, a ipad wifi 16gb could cost over £100 but a 64gb 3g would be around £300/£400

Yes they must have torn the wifi cable and the 3g one, you have to be so care full as they are about as strong as paper and stuck with adhesive to the back of the glass.

Accidentally knocked my iPad 2 off a chair today and it hit one of the metal castors at the bottom. It caused a small dent in the side where it hit and that seems to have created a number of small cracks in the glass that radiate out, but annoyingly there is one big crack that runs near the entire length of the screen. The iPad still functions properly at least.

I'm just trying to work out what my options are, from the above it sounds like screen replacement services are pretty dodgy.

With Apple, it sounds like you can have a replacement, but still at great cost. Anyone know if when given that option you can elect to pay a bit more for the new model?
As it seems a bit silly to pay a lot for the same model when there is a new one.

Otherwise I'm wondering whether to see if I can make a claim on home contents insurance, otherwise perhaps maybe try and sell it on eBay?

I just had 2 IPAD's repaired by apple and each one cost £172.03 + vat. It was dropped and damaged at the top corner which messed up the finger presses on the screen.

this! its a flat rate and doesnt depend on model, dunno what the poster above was on about

So it's what about £180-190 for a replacement from Apple, regardless of size?

After checking my accidental home insurance coverage, I'd have to pay a £230 excess, which sounds like its more than Apple, but given that they don't sell the 64GB iPad 2 anymore, if I went that option, I would presumably be given its value, thus could buy a new iPad 64gb.

Phoned my Insurance Company (Direct Line) and made a claim, which would be subject to an excess of £225.

What I didn't realise is that the claim goes to a company they deal with who will send a courier to pick it up, in order to assess the iPad and as to whether its repairable. I'm not really sure I want it repaired, given that Apple don't do that and previous comments about screen repairs being hit & miss; the operator did say though that usually they replace them.

He said it tends to be done by way of vouchers of the value for retailers such as Argos, Comet and a couple of other high-street stores. If the product can't be sourced, they will likely give a cheque to the value so it can be bought from Apple or elsewhere.

So now I'm not sure whether that means they will source me another iPad2, rather than giving me the value of my iPad which is £559, the same as the new iPad Retina. Also, I'm not sure whether that means they will keep it once they've assessed it, as that kind of blows away my idea of selling the broken one to cover the cost of the excess.

Apple replaced my iPad 2 when the wife took smashed the screen into powder. £190 ish from memory the thing was only a month old at the time as well and it was way beyond a simple replacing the glass/screen, even the body was dented.

Lets just say i wasnt happy with her, she claims that somebody ran into here outside her class and knocked it out of her hand, i think she picked it up with the open end of the case down and it slipped out.

Apple will have plenty of stock of old models for replacements, they still replace parts on macbooks etc years old!

Yes I realise that Apple themselves do, if I paid them for a replacement, they would likely do a straight iPad2 64GB swap.

Given that my insurance company is likely to give me vouchers for someone like Argos, I notice they don't actually carry that model anymore, as you can no longer buy it. (with the exception of some retailers who still have stock).

but your insurance excess is more than what apple charge

plus your premium will go up

just go to apple pay £190 and walk out with a new ipad 2

It's £250 according to every source I've found in the UK where somebody has recently taken a damaged iPad in to Apple.

Thats more than my excess, I've never ever made any house insurance claims before, I will likely loose the 10% no claims discount, but then I'm not paying a huge amount for insurance anyway, so ultimately it doesn't bother me if it goes up a bit, as its likely worth it.

Just thought I'd update to say that the insurance company sent a courier to pick the iPad up late Friday afternoon. On Monday I got a call to say it was beyond economical repair, so they are looking to replace it. The only option available to replace a 64gb iPad2 is with the new iPad, so the Operator then explained to me how it was better than my iPad 2 anyway ;)

Just received a cash loaded card to spend at DSG stores through the post this morning. By choosing the card option over a cheque, I've also been given more than the value of the iPad, so I can also buy a lightning adapter and probably a couple of other bits.

I was actually quite surprised about how quick things have been, especially when they were saying that turnaround for assessment can take two weeks.
