ipad 3 - is it a fast tablet for browsing the web?

To me, it's probably the best browsing experience you can get. Providing that's all I want to do, I'll only ever use the iPad. Hate sitting at my PC browsing now

sounds great for her then, sick of the complaining about her slow laptop. Theres only so many time i can tell her its not the laptop its the internet servers that are slow ;p

To echo the above comments, it is very fast. Even more so in iOS 6 where Safari is on steriods.

Agreed, I noticed the difference just on my 4S on iOS6 (even when on 3G)

Haven't yet upgraded my iPad but can imagine it will be great, it isn't a slouch on iOS5 though

As above the ipad makes for a great web browser but if that is the only real usage then it is quite expensive.

There are other tablets available now for half the cost that will make for a decent web browsing experience.

There is also of course the ipad mini coming soon.

It's quite good, the bigger screen the better imo so I rather have 10">7" screen.
Most websites work correctly on new ipad however some don't load as flash or some bits are missing like Odeon website.

you want to buy a 400 pounds + device to browse the web ?

Kenneth.

cant you just do a simple reinstall off windows?

she will use it for more than browsing the web, ebooks etc. i know it will handle running the apps it comes with that's why i asked for feedback about the web experience on it.

And whats wrong with buying some new technology now and then? i want her to have something new instead of an old laptop which frankly i can't be bothered to waste my time on putting it right :P

Remember Videos, especially HD ones take up a lot of space. Today's media content, including apps are bigger in terms of file size so 16GB could be restrictive. Depends on how much she will put on.

I find it can be very fast, but with lots of tabs open it can run like a dog, and the reloading of pages when switching tabs becomes irritating after a while if you like to open lots of links in new tabs from site like BBC news etc

I also find some sites very slow or are not well optimised for touch theverge.com and Facebook spring to mind.

Having said that, I do most browsing on my ipad 3 these days, which probably says it all in terms of the overall experience.

I'm still on iOS 5.1.1 with my iPad 3 and it is very quick, I know someone who has upgraded to iOS6 and the browsing is even quicker. Not going to upgrade mine just yet as mine is jailbroken but it is brilliant, can't go wrong with it!

This. Funny you should mention the verge because I'm sure it's getting slower on the iPad.

Generally speaking though it's a very good web browser (the iPad itself)

Pretty much sums up my own thoughts, it's a pretty bad experience when you're trying to do a lot but if you keep it simple it's very pleasant if you don't mind the limitations of a touch interface.
