Behind you... Naked!
Ok, god knows why, but I just got hold of an ipad 4 and its absolutely immaculate and so I bought a nice case for it and a glass screen protector, and now I am starting to realise that I cannot do anything with it?

I cannot setup any accounts on it, I cannot use my own current account and nor can I even use my Apple Account, and so its clearly not letting me do anything much at all with it.

I cannot install anything onto it either. I am genuinely at a loss as to why I bothered to get it to be honest. I thought I could at least just have a play with a toy for a bit until I get bored, but I am not even able to do that?

I can install Android APK Files onto an old Android phone, and hell, even the blackberries can take a few Android apps.

So, surely there is some way that I can perhaps get some use out of it... If so, then can anyone tell me how, or point me in the right direction please?

What do you mean by "cannot"? Is it logged into another account already? Is it complaining about the account you're trying to use? We need info.
If it's already linked to another account then you'll need that acocunt's password to reset it to factory settings. Has this been done already?

you should be able to sign into your icloud account unless its locked to another account. Speak to the person you got it from and see if you can remove the account from it, otherwise it is quite literally a piece of metal

It does sound like its locked or managed with an MDM of some sort, that said if it is a 4th gen iPad and not a mini 4 then its stuck on iOS 10.

I have used an old iPad that was stuck on iOS 12 and most stuff doesn't work / won't install because its just too old now.

On iOS 12 forget about any banking, NHS, shopping apps etc. they just don’t work now and sites opening and working in safari is very hit and miss so a device on iOS 10 will be even worse.

Even if you could sign in I doubt you could do much with it other than use it as a photo frame; most apps require at least iOS 15 some now require iOS 17, occasionally you can install an older version of an APP but it will be unsupported and might not work very well.
