My daughter is about to turn 13, and has been really getting into her Art recently. She has asked for an iPad to do art on for her birthday. She currently has a Mini, but it is old. She is looking for a bigger one (11"), and to be good for her art. I'm not spending a grand on a Pro for her for sure.

But I do wonder if I should fork out for the Air M3 over the A16 regular. I get the impression the extra features of the Apple Pen Pro might be worth it for her use case.

Any suggestions?

Not at all. She aint like that. And does plenty of art on paper with pencil. But she also does a lot of "digital" art aswell, although her ancient ipad isn't really man enough for it.

I'd rather encourage her creativity than write it off as a "fashion accessory" when that is far from the way she uses such technologies (the tech she does have never leaves the house for example, except her phone for obvious reasons, so she aint exactly showing it off).

The Pencil Pro isn't compatible with the base model (although just read you said base model Air). This is really the conundrum, ha ha. I feel the Pencil Pro probably has the features that would be useful for her use case, over the USB C Pencil. But need to go up to the Air for that pro compatibility.
