iPad Air 2: Can I get rid of this overlay?

When I swipe right to left from the right hand edge of the screen this overlay appears:

Is there a way to deactivate this feature?

It's the multi tasking menu and can't be disabled afaik. If you want to use the gesture to navigate a webpage just do it in the top right fifth of the screen

You can disable this feature by going into settings->general->multitasking. Uncheck the option "Allow multiple apps"
