I'm trying to stream/display a fairly OS intense app (Zwift) on a TV. While the iPad itself (an older Air) handles it admirably, once you start streaming to a TV it ends up chugging a fair bit due to the extra processing involved. This seems to be a limitation of the AV adapter as the iPad display itself remains smooth throughout. Is AirPlay likely to be any better or does streaming take even more resource?

I think airplay does the external stream instead of the one on your iPad screen. If your TV has fewer pixels than your iPad Air then I'd guess Airplay will work great.

I did a post yesterday about using a router (for Airplay) that's not connected to the internet. Take a look in the Apple software thread if you're interested - for example if you don't want your TV to be online.
