Hey all,

I've been using the iPad for a little while, getting used to its bits and bobs :p

One thing I've found is viewing images on the thing...

For example...

I was trying to view this image courtesy of Reddit. As you can see (as long as you're viewing on a computer) you can view the text quite clearly.

However, on the iPad it looked like this. The text is unreadable on the iPad... It's the same on my iPhone - it must be a resolution thing :/

Any ideas?

Marky

PS - I do know about AlienBlue, and have it on my iPhone but haven't got round to checking it out on the iPad just yet :p

What Internet connection are you using? I know when I use the mobile Internet from O2, it uses image compression on all images, which degrades the quality like so.

At the time I was using wifi so I don't think it could have been a connection problem - I'll try it again tonight but I'll try it right close to the router to ensure a good connection...

New iPad? maybe something to do with the higher resolution screen and low res images?

Yes this is what I suspect, but I was wondering if there was any way around it :( I can view it fine on a normal computer, but not on the iPad.

Does the same thing on my iPhone 4 on a JANET wifi connection, something the iOS Safari browser does perhaps?

Hmm maybe... :(

Just tested it on an original iPad and the text is still the same on the image, so it's not retina related.

Just an iOS quirk it seems?
Ahh right... I guess so :( Thanks a lot for checking and putting my mind to rest :)

Mobile Safari will downsize a jpg that is over 2.09MP (actually 2x1024x1024 pixels = 2097152). See here

Note that the image is 1046x2760 in Safari, but in your screenshot Mobile Safari has scaled it down to 523x1380.

Aaahhhh! You've cracked it ol' bean :p Okay... so this is a bug I assume? Or at the very least a limit which is too tight really :p

Do you know if there is a jailbreak fix? (I know there isn't a jailbreak out for the new iPad at the moment, but it'd be nice to fix this on my iPhone also! :))
